Alden-Hebron District 19 School-Parent Compact The Alden-Hebron Elementary School and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, entire school staff and the student will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parent will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. This school-parent compact is in effect during the 2012-2013 school year. School Responsibilities Alden-Hebron Elementary School will: 1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows: Teachers use best practices in the classroom to ensure high-quality teaching and learning at all academic levels and abilities. Teachers use research based curriculum materials. Reading and math interventions are researched based. Teachers use curriculum consistent with Common Core Standards & Illinois Learning Standards. Curriculum materials are used with fidelity across the grades. Reduced teacher to student ratio in intervention services. Grade level and instructional level services provided to ensure a supportive and effective learning environment. Teachers engage student learning through interactive technology/research based lessons Ongoing professional development for teachers in the areas of reading and technology consistent with Common and Core Standards & Illinois Learning Standards. 2. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held: October 25-26, 2012 February 14, 2013 (upon request of teacher or parent) 3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows: September 21, 2012- First Quarter Progress Reports & AimsWeb results October 22, 2012- First Quarter Report Cards/MAP Results November 16, 2012- Second Quarter Progress Reports January 9, 2013- Second Quarter Report Cards February 8, 2013- Third Quarter Progress Reports & AimsWeb Results March 13, 2013- Third Quarter Report Cards & MAP Results April 12, 2013- Fourth Quarter Progress Reports May 23, 2013 (if no snow days are used)- Fourth Quarter Report Cards & AimsWeb/MAP Results 4. Provide parents with reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows: Teachers/Support Personnel are available through e-mail or voice messages daily. Teachers/Support Personnel are available for conferences during teacher planning time. Teachers/Support Personnel are available for conferences before or after school. 5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and to observe classroom activities as follows: Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom by contacting the classroom teacher to set up a volunteer schedule. Parents are also welcome to observe their child’s classroom after scheduling a time with the classroom teacher. All classroom volunteers must complete a Volunteer Information Form & Waiver of Liability. The building principal will review the Illinois Sex Offender Registry and the Child Murderer and Violent Offenders Against Youth database maintained by the State Police before volunteering can begin. A calendar of activities/parent trainings will be available at parent/teacher conferences. Parent Responsibilities We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways: Ensure daily student attendance. Ensure daily homework completion. Monitor the amount of television my child watches. Volunteer in my child’s classroom. Participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education. Promote positive use of my child’s extracurricular time. Stay informed about my child’s education. Communicate with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate. Read to my child each night or provide an opportunity for my child to read independently each night. Student Responsibilities We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the state’s high standards. Specifically, we will: Complete my homework every day and ask for help when I need it. Read at least 30 minutes every day outside of school time. Give my parents or the adult who is responsible for my welfare all notices and information received by me from my school every day.
