ASSERT Final Conference Dear Colleague, The ASSERT project, funded under FP7, aims to increase the awareness that security research can yield better results if its societal dimensions are considered from the very beginning of the “design process”. ASSERT has explored new roles for Societal Impact Assessment (SIA) in the research process. The results include: A set of best practice criteria of exploring and assessing the societal impacts of security research and technology An analysis and overview of the added value SIA can create across the innovation journey; An online tool and hands-on guidance for the assessment process; A mechanism to strengthen and solidify the expert community of societal security, stimulate learning and information exchange, and enhance the knowledge base in support of programme planning. We would like to present and discuss our findings, as well as possible ways forward, with experts and practitioners in the field, on the occasion of our Final Conference, which will take place on April 28, 2014, from 13:30–17:30, at The Radisson Blue EU Hotel, Rue d’Italie 35, Brussels, Belgium. We would be delighted if you could join us and look forward to hearing from you.
