Assignment 5
Dana said that I had to choose a project to get my credit. So I have several different kinds of
projects to do, but I want to focus on marine debris. One idea is can debris affect the reproduction of
plants near or on the beach. Another idea is can vegetation eat or destroy debris. My last idea would be
could marine debris kill plants.
I have some background knowledge about marine debris is that it can kill animals by getting
tangled up or eaten marine debris. I know in some cases marine debris can stop plants from doing
photosynthesis. Marine debris can come in different shapes and numbers. But also that people can pick
it up and stop the marine debris from causing harm.
I will do a poster with several different types of articles. One will be about plants of the beach
while I am walking down to and up from the beach. I will take information by taking pictures with a
camera. Then for a different section I will talk about what is marine debris and what it does. Then I will
talk about how surveys are being done what steps are needed to complete a survey and how many a
month are needed.
How will I teach the public in the serous impact on the ecosystem that we need to healthy.
Some people think that marine debris is nothing and won’t affect their daily lives. But if it pills up like
the garbage patch it is a serious problem.
I hope to open the public to the serious threat that marine debris makes. It will make people
think twice about leaving garbage on the beach. Marine debris gets eaten by animals and some of those
animals are starved to death. I will help people recognize what marine debris looks like and how to
properly dispose of it. I could influence people go to a beach cleanup.
The materials that I will need is a beach, plants, a camera, pencil, garbage bags, clipboard, paper
and plants.
1. I will first get to a beach site.
2. I will start to head down but look at the plants
3. If the plants have garbage I will take picture
4. Then I will remove the trash
5. I head down to the beach
6. Pick up trash
7. Dot down on survey
8. Meet up then tally up the garbage total
9. Walk up the trail and check the plants again
10. Take pictures of plants if they have trash
11. Then remove trash
12. Dispose of trash properly
My project will get a positive feedback in the fourth beach and ruby beach. It will be posted in a
spot were the public can see it and think about that it is a good idea that it is a good idea. Then
the ONP will get phone call about how to properly dispose of the trash. Then visitors would go
down to fourth beach and ruby beach then say they are one of the cleanest beach they went to.
