SUBJECT: LOCAL LODGE 1487 SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2015
In accordance with Local Lodge 1487 bylaws of the I.A.M.A.W. This letter is to announce the Year 2016 competition
for Local Lodge 1487 Scholarship Program.
This is based on a scholarship competition to the members of Local Lodge 1487 and all 2016 graduating high school seniors who
are legal children of Local Lodge 1487.
To effectively carry out this program all active Local Lodge 1487 members in good standing are requested:

Distribute information concerning the scholarship programs via Social media and/or work area Bulletin Boards
affiliated with Local Lodge 1487. (Applications will be provided on request by e-mail to LL1487RS@gmail.com
or by calling 847-299-8144)
Make available to all such members the official rules and regulations of the Year 2016 competition and
application forms thereof. Please note that the official application forms are printed and to be detached from
the bottom portion of the rules and regulations. Additional copies of the rules and regulations and or
application forms may be obtained from the office Local Lodge 1487 office, www.IAMLOCAL1487.org website, or
reproduced locally.
All application forms contain a statement of verification to be executed by the Local Lodge Financial Secretary/Treasurer or
Recording Secretary. This verification attest to the member’s good standing as of February 1, 2016. The Local Lodge 1487
seal also must be imprinted on each submitted application.
APPLICATION- Fully completed application forms must accompany all Essays. All applicants must be sent by U.S. Mail to Local
Lodge 1487 IAMAW, 50 West Oakton Street, Des Plaines, IL 60018, and postmarked no later than March 26, 2016. The word
“SCHOLARSHIP” must be written in the lower left-hand corner of the envelope used to send all entries.
Any questions that may arise to the Scholarship Program, the competition and/or awards, which need to be answered should
be addressed to the Local Lodge 1487 President, Secretary/Treasurer or Recording Secretary. For further concerns other
contacts will be provided on request.
We want to take this opportunity thank ALL members in advance for this, our first year, to sponsor a Local Lodge 1487
Scholarship.

LOCAL LODGE 1487 INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MACHINISTS AND AEROSPACE WORKERS
RULES AND REGULATIONS
AWARDS- The year 2016 award will consist of one (1) First Prize of $2000.00 scholarship award. Award may be used for tuition only and will be
paid directly to the college or accredited institute of higher knowledge at which the award is accepted.
ELIGIBILITY- the Essay Competition is opened to members in good standing of Local Lodge 1487 as of February 1, 2015, who are not former
recipients of a Local Lodge 1487 Scholarship Award and to 2016 graduating high school seniors who are legal children of members in good
standing of Local Lodge 1487 as of February 1, 2016.
TIMETABLE- the Essay Competition will open February 1, 2015 and will end at midnight, March 26, 2016. Winners will be announced summer
2016.
ESSAY RULES- The subject of the Essay will be “Government Politics, and how it affects the Labor Unions?” the Essay must be less than 1,000
words and must be typewritten on 8 ½ x 11 paper. The title must be placed at the top of the paper. Entrant’s name or any other identifying
marks will not appear on the Essay paper. A bibliography of sources for the essay material must be attached to the Essay. All work must be the
sole work of the entrant
HANDLING-All Essays received the property of Local Lodge 1487 and may be printed in the future using contestant’s name. Upon receipt,
Essays and applications forms will be separated and numbered only for judging purposes. The Scholarship committee will match winning Essays
to the appropriate applications. The winner will be screened by the Scholarship Committee.
JUDGING- The Judges will be selected annually by the Scholarship Committee. The decisions of the judges will be final. Essays will be judged on
grammar, syntax, style, organization and content.
DISQUALIFICATION-Entrants must comply with all rules regarding the scholarship competition or be subject to disqualification. Disqualification
will be made only by the majority vote of the Scholarship Committee and will be final and binding. Any information supplied by entrants found
to be untrue will result in disqualification.
