Learning Support
Students admitted to the University of Georgia with scores below the University System
minimum requirements on the SAT/ACT and/or with a College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC)
deficiency in English or math are classified as Learning Support (LS) students. Currently, the
minimum acceptable SAT scores are 430 SATV and 400 SATM. The minimum acceptable ACT
score is 17 for both English and math. Admitted students with scores below the minimum
requirements are required to take the COMPASS examination in the corresponding subjects,
English and reading and/or math. Scores below 60 on the English, 74 on the reading, and 37 on
the mathematics COMPASS classifies the student as Learning Support. The class code of 15
designates a Learning Support student in the Student Information System.








All Learning Support students are required to take UNIV 1113, University Success for
Freshmen or UNIV 1103, Strategies and Life Skills Needed for Success. University
Studies Students enroll in UNIV 1118, University Studies Academic Success. These
courses carry 2 hours of elective degree credit. Credit can be received for only one of
these courses.
Learning Support students are advised through the Division of Academic Enhancement
until they exit the program by achieving COMPASS exit scores of at least 60 for English,
74 for reading, or a 37 for mathematics and by passing the corresponding learning
support course with a grade of "C" or better in each. Learning Support program area
(English, mathematics, or reading). LS students in English must also earn a passing score
on the Exit Writing Sample. Each LS student is allowed three attempts, per LS area, to
exit the required course and pass the exit COMPASS. Students who do not exit a program
area in three attempts are dismissed from the University for a period of one year.
Learning Support students may not accumulate more than 30 hours of college level credit
before completing all Learning Support requirements. Students who accumulate 30 hours
of college level credit and have not successfully completed required Learning Support
courses enroll only in Learning Support courses until requirements are successfully
completed.
When registering for coursework in their Learning Support program area, LS students
must enroll under ENGL, MATH or READ prefixes. Only LS students are able to enroll
in these particular courses.
Learning Support students with SATV < 430 and COMPASS reading score < 74 are
required to take READ 0099L in addition to READ 0099.
Learning Support students with SATV < 430 and COMPASS English score < 60 are
required to take ENGL 0099L in addition to ENGL 0099.
Learning Support students with SATM < 400 and a COMPASS mathematics score < 37
are required to enroll in MATH 0099L.
Learning Support students (Code 15) are advised through the Division of Academic
Enhancement ONLY.

Learning Support Course Withdrawal Policy
LS students who are withdrawn from or choose to withdraw from any or all of their Learning
Support courses with a WP or WF, must also withdraw from all other credit bearing courses.
