Topics Discussed:

Child Development Program Update: Cindy Cary
o The “Little Cubs” workshop was presented on October 17, 2012, and was very
successful. Thirteen parents and little tots ranging from ages 18 months to 4
years old were in attendance.
o Dr. Goor recommended that Alicia Rosas from the Media Department be
contacted to ensure she attends the next workshop on December 12, 2012, at
Solorio School.
o Cindy reported that their students will be providing a Service Learning Project
entitled, “Have You Filled Your Bucket Today?” for the kindergarten students on
November 28, 2012.
o Dr. Goor does want to heighten awareness of these wonderful projects provided
by the Child Development Program faculty and students.

Yorba Elementary School Update: Judy Morris
o Two 468 Student Teachers have been placed at Yorba Elementary with two Site
Supervisors for the fall term on October 29, 2012.
o The Student Teachers, Site Supervisors, and Judy met October 29. 2012, to
discuss the PDS criteria and 468 student teaching expectations.
o Three counseling interns are placed at the school to provide group counseling
and parent workshops under the direction of Kathy Elderson.
o One psychologist intern is placed at Yorba School under the direction of Jackie
Allen for their clinical experience.
Solorio Elementary School Update: Judy Morris
o Two 468 Student Teachers are placed at Solorio School.
o The Student Teachers, Site Supervisors, and Judy met the first Monday, October
29, 2012, of the term to discuss the PDS criteria and 468 student teaching
expectations.

PDS Research Committee- Jackie Allen and Patt Ensey
o Thierry Kolpin and Jackie Allen are working with Michael Cosenza to include
him in the Research Study by having him use the Readiness Survey at one of his
emerging PDS.
o Data from the Readiness Survey will be used to complete a research paper to be
at the National Association of Professional Development Schools Conference in
New Orleans in February, 2013. Michael Cosenza will be included in the
presentation at the NAPDS Conference.
o The Research Committee has sent a proposal to AERA for the April-May yearly
conference in San Francisco in 2013.

Teacher Leadership Program-Patt Ensey & Mark Goor
o Patt Ensey explained her Teacher Leadership program that could be modified to
provide the participating teacher an opportunity to gain a certificate, a credential,
and or a Master’s degree.
o The development of the Teacher Leadership Certificate has to be presented to
the Curriculum Committee for Approval.

PDS Placement of Student Teachers for the Spring Term: Robert Wakeling
o Bob Wakeling reported that he is changing the format for placing candidates in
participating schools for the January and Spring term.
o Bob has generated a list of “Best Practices” schools with input from the Site
Supervisors. The candidates will be given this list and asked to list three schools
or districts that they DO NOT want to be placed for their student teaching.
o Bob has developed a Residency Model to present to the Teacher Education
faculty to consider for the fall of 2013. The Residency Model places the
candidates in one school with a Site Supervisor for all of their clinical fieldwork
hours and student teaching experience.
o Research has proven this model has increased the effectiveness of the candidates
clinical experience in schools and is promoted by NCATE.
Electronic Portfolios Report: Ingrid Carruth
o Ingrid Carruth is guiding the implementation of the electronic portfolios in the
460 courses for Main Campus and Off-Campus.
o The has visited all of the Off-Campus sites to ensure understanding of the
implementation.
Bonita Unified School District- Mark Goor and Judy Morris
o Judy and Mark reported that Bonita School District is interested in meeting with
Mark, Anita, and Barbara, to discuss, “What Does It Mean to be a PDS? on
November 6, 2012.
o Lois Klein is interested in the “Best Practice” classroom list criteria and open to
discussing an emerging partnership for the fall of 2013.
La Verne Experience – Dr. Mark Goor
o Mark, Sammy, and Lynn attended an all day retreat on Civic Engagement
Classification for the university. It is a self-selection process to provide us the
opportunity to be classified as Civic Engagement University.
o The president and provost are talking to Pomona City Leaders to research the




possibility of forming a partnership. “Learning from Each Other” would benefit
the city and university by having a reciprocal relationship.

Action Items;
 Judy Morris will contact Dr. Carol Pilgren, Solorio Elementary School’s principal to
schedule a Joint PDS Steering Committee Meeting in November or December.
 Judy Morris will contact Shandria Richmond-Roberts, Yorba Elementary School’s
principal, to answer any questions she has about our emerging partnership and to
schedule a Joint PDS Steering Committee Meeting in November.
 Patt Ensey will bring information on the Teacher Leadership Program to the next PDS
Steering Committee Meeting.
