Child Development Program: Cindy Cary explained the NAEYC 7th standard for

grade levels working with children from 5 years to 8 years of age. A decision was made
to have an option for the students to spend 8 weeks of their fieldwork in a kindergarten
classroom Solorio School.
 Cindy and Judy met with the principal of Solorio School, Dr. Carol Pilgren, on
February 6, 2012, and discussed the timeline and kindergarten placement of two
students.
 Cindy discussed the possibility of the next steps at Solorio School: Providing the
Service Learning Project with the Child Development students, Solorio staff, and
kindergarteners participating. Providing a “Mommy and Me’ toddler class at the
school for the parents of the school.
Yorba School
 Shandria met with Dr. Jan Pilgreen at the university’s Literacy Center and discussed
the criteria and requirements for the Yorba Students to be admitted to the tutorial
program for the spring and summer term.

individual, small group, and parent counseling. Workshops will be presented after
they complete a parent needs assessment.
 The next PDS meeting at Yorba School will be on February 14, 2012.
Solorio School
 Six student teachers will begin 478 on February 21, 2012. Two students from the
Child Development program will begin their fieldwork in April.
 There are three Administrative interns placed at Solorio working with Dr. Carol
Pilgren, the principal.

 A staff development day is scheduled for March 5, 2012, titled, “Inquiring Minds
Want to Know: Using he Inquiry Approach” presented by Dr. Valerie Beltran and Dr.
Jessica Decker. The staff, district representatives, and the PDS Steering Committee
will be in attendance.
Bonita School District
 There are five Liberal counseling students placed in the district. The students are
meeting regularly with the university and school supervisor.
 Donna Redman is meeting regularly with the Vice Principal to implement a high
school course on the Introduction to Education. This will tie them into the University
of La Verne and encourage them to join the Liberal Studies Program. This course
will give them 3 credits towards their college degree.
Interactions
 Ingrid Baartman, representing RCA, discussed the seven school district partnerships
that are occurring off-campus. The staff and employees from the participating school
districts are given a tuition discount when they enter any university’s programs.
 The question was presented, “Do we want to include this Financial Assistance
Program on our web page?”
 The decision was that the program does not have a two-way relationship and does fit
our guidelines to include on the Web Page.
La Verne Experience
 Dr. Goor stated that the goal is for everyone to launch the La Verne Experience next
fall.
 The Arts and Science Department has freshman link classes which connect students
with the community. Donna Redman and Lynn Stanton-Riggs want to be involved in
the concept. They will attend the Arts and Science meeting to understand how the
process works and how they can make it work in their programs.
Teacher Leadership Certificate
 The current movement and review of literature on Teacher Leadership
emphasizes leadership training and collaboration. The NCATE blue Ribbon
Report has a set of model standards for teacher leaders which is close to the
credential standards.
 The Administrative Credential includes seven (7) classes with fieldwork
experiences. “What four classes could we use in our Teacher Leadership
Certificate?”
 After receiving the Teacher Leadership Certificate the teacher could take other
courses to receive a master’s degree or Administration Credential.
 Next step: Mark will talk to Emmett Terrell and ask him, “What do they have in
mind for their teachers?” Using the standards Patt Ensey could develop a
Leadership program not heavy on theory put best practices and training in:
leadership; coaching. Mentoring, staff development and oral presentations. The
format would be in the form of workshops and could have some classes at a
school site.
 A recommendation is to investigate grants which would provide some money to
aid the students in their tuition.
Fieldwork Experience Committee
 They need to include two paragraphs describing the undergraduate and graduate
