The successful candidate will carry out up to 6 hours of academicrelated work per week as part of their research training. Research Discipline Human resource management, specifically in: Graduates’ career development; gender diversity and equality; and international and cross-cultural management Research Theme Inclusive society Research Project Summary Patterns of career development are considered to have changed in recent years (Pryor and Bright, 2011), alongside changes in the career development expectations of the so-called Generation Y (Broadbridge et al., 2007) and, most recently, Generation Z (Shearing, 2014) age groups who are in the early or prospective stages of their careers. Further, it is recognised that there are significant differences in career development across gender and countries (World Economic Forum, 2014). Gendered career development can be associated with varying national cultures (Klarsfield, 2010) and globalisation means that increasingly cultural differences have to be managed in contemporary international workplaces (French, 2015, forthcoming). Consequently, the aim of the proposed PhD thesis is to critically analyse graduates’ career development focusing on investigating gendered and international perspectives. This doctoral study seeks to add to knowledge on: graduates’ career development; gender diversity and equality; and international and cross-cultural management. Its impact, firstly, at an individual graduate level may be to afford insight into personal, proactive career development. Secondly, its impact at organisational level may be to inform management of graduates’ careers as an economically important part of contemporary workforces. Ultimately, the impact of the doctoral study at a societal level may be to support development of more inclusive societies.
