Christ is risen! The great surprise, the empty tomb. Christ is risen! From now on, all is different. Today is Easter Day. Jesus Christ is risen today! *OPENING HYMN “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today” No. 302 vs. 1, 3-5 *PRAYER OF THE DAY We come to the tomb, like the women, prepared to do the one expected task, then find everything changed forever. Guide us, O God, as we also struggle to sort out amazement from fear and discover rejoicing. For Christ is risen. Amen. MESSAGE FOR THE CHILDREN “The Hokey Pokey Church” SCRIPTURE READING Acts 10:34-43 34 Then Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. 35 In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right. 36 This is the message of Good News for the people of Israel—that there is peace with God through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee, after John began preaching his message of baptism. 38 And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. *39 “And we apostles are witnesses of all he did throughout Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him to life on the third day. Then God allowed him to appear, 41 not to the general public, but to us whom God had chosen in advance to be his witnesses. We were those who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of all—the living and the dead. 43 He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name.” CHOIR ANTHEM “Early in the Mornin’ on Easter Day” LITANY It is the day of resurrection! We will rejoice and be glad! Our sin has been forgiven. Death has been defeated. Light has overcome the darkness. The tomb is empty! Jesus Christ is risen today. He is risen indeed! Alleluia! *HYMN ”Up from the Grave He Arose” No. 322 MESSAGE “Full people and empty people” PRESENTATION OF GIFTS, TITHES, and OFFERINGS *Song of Thanksgiving “Alleluia, Alleluia” vs. 4 No. 162 *PRAYER OF DEDICATION TIME FOR SHARING AND CARING PASTORAL PRAYER CELEBRATION AT THE LORD’S TABLE The Lord’s Prayer – Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. The women were shocked, 6 but the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body. 7 Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died.” 8 The women fled from the tomb, trembling and bewildered, and they said nothing to anyone because they were too frightened. (NLT)
