GENERAL GUIDENCE:
This Section includes waterproofing systems with the design intent of preventing water migration
around structures below ground through micro-compartments in accordance with BS 8102:2009
(Figure 6) for the following application:
Integrally bonded HDPE sheet waterproofing with dual adhesive laps for pre-applied waterproofing
applications for installation below slab. Basis of design is Grace Preprufe® 160R Plus by Grace
Construction Products.
Membrane shall be 0.8mm thick, uniform, flexible sheets consisting of 0.4mm thick, HDPE sheet
coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive, a trafficable weather resistant coating.
The membrane shall have a kick-out roll function to facilitate ease of application and shall have no
release liner to reduce the environmental impact. Continuity between adjacent sheets shall be
assured with dual adhesive laps. The membrane shall form an integral and permanent bond to
placed concrete to prevent water migration at the interface of the membrane and structural concrete.
The membrane shall be chemically resistant and protect the structure from salt and sulphate attack.
It shall have been proven to be tested to a resist a minimum lateral water migration of 70m head of
water (686kpa), at the membrane concrete interface and have a zero permeance to moisture, it will
not activate prematurely due to wet conditions and is unaffected by ground settlement beneath slabs.
CERTIFICATION & STANDARDS

ANCILLARIES
Grace Liquid Membrane - Two component elastomeric, cold applied liquid compound, which cures
to form a tough seamless rubber-like waterproof layer. Grace Liquid Membrane shall conform to
irregular profiles and be suitable for detailing curved, irregular or stepped profiles, pile penetrations,
internal corners, flashing round drains, gullies, pipe entries and edge sealing at terminations.
Waterstops - Adcor® 500S, Adcor® 550MI, Servitite®, Serviseal® waterstops for expansion joints and
additional protection at construction joints providing single point responsibility see specification
clause Grace Waterstops E40/310
Preprufe® Tape - Has a highly aggressive, pressure sensitive adhesive layer for overbanding cut
edges and roll ends, and for providing continuity of waterproofing at penetrations and detailing.

310. WORKMANSHIP GENERALLY
Condition of substrate:
- Clean and even textured, free from voids and sharp protrusions.
- Moisture content: Compatible with damp proofing/ tanking.
Air and surface temperature: above -5°C
Condition of membrane at completion:
- Neat, smooth and fully supported, dressed well into abutments and around intrusions.- Completely impervious and continuous.
- Undamaged. Prevent puncturing during following work.
- Permanent overlying construction: Cover membrane within 56 days (42 in hot climates).
320. INSPECTION:
Give notice:
- Before covering any part of membrane with overlying construction.
335. PRIMERS:
Not Required
350. ANGLES IN SELF-ADHESIVE DAMP PROOFING/ TANKING:
Corners:
- Formed by fold and crease
- No mortar fillet required.
- No preformed corners required
Reinforcing strip to all angles:
- Not required.
360. JUNCTIONS WITH PROJECTING DPCS/ CAVITY TRAYS:
Adjoining surfaces: Clean and dry.
Dpcs/ cavity trays: Lap and fully bond/ seal with sheeting.
- Laps (minimum): 50mm
- Bonding/ Sealing: Grace Liquid Membrane
370. PREFORMED COLLARS FOR PIPES, DUCTS, CABLES, ETC.:
- Not required
- Membrane to be scribed tight to the penetration, if not within 12mm applies Preprufe Tape to
cover gap. Where required wrap penetration with Preprufe Tape by positioning tape a minimum
12mm above the membrane. Grace Liquid Membrane to be applied around penetration, forming a
fillet to provide a watertight seal between Preprufe  membrane and Tape.
380 PROTECTION BOARDS FOR DAMP PROOFING/ TANKING:
- Not Required.
