FOUR-PART ASSIGNMENT
Part 1: Comparative Matrix

include information and comments for all seven of the ancient civilizations we studied:
Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, the ancient Israelites, Greece, and Rome.
Part 2: Parallel Eras Timelines
Using a Numbers spreadsheet, create parallel timelines, spanning the time period from 1500 B.C. to
A.D. 500 for the six civilizations listed below. Indicate significant historical eras for each civilization. (See
the yellow bands on pages 506-507 of your textbook.)
b) Mesopotamia
c) Egypt
d) India
e) China
f) Greece
g) Rome
Tip: First, create reference markers every 250 years along your timeline. Then, use “objects” to create
events that can be positioned on your timeline.
Part 3: Political Maps
Color the maps provided to indicate the boundaries of:
a) The Empire of Alexander the Great, 323 B.C.
b) The Roman Empire, c. AD 117
Part 4: Top 20 Events Timeline
Create an event timeline that in your opinion features the top 20 most important events or
developments from the ancient history we studied. Events from various civilizations should be
interwoven and presented in chronological order. You may elect to do any one of the following options:
a) Keynote presentation with a timeline through line on each slide. Include images and captions.
b) An illustrated timeline, using paper no larger than 8-1/2” x 11”. Multiple papers may be
attached and fan-folded to lengthen your line. Include images and captions.
c) Video recording of a successful run of a Rube Goldberg machine that traces in chronological
order the top 20 events you have identified. The 20 events must be featured in a series of at
least 10 mechanical actions. Include images and captions. Be sure all information is visible and
legible in your video.
Each student is responsible for completing his or her own final project.
A detailed list of significant events for each civilization can be found on my Teacher Page in the “History
Reflection” folder in the “Class Files” section.
