Afternoon Fuel
The first Tuesday of
each month is Sonic
Night for PJ. A
percentage of the
money made that
night goes to our
October Perfect Attendance
Each month we will be recognizing
perfect attendance. Students that
have perfect attendance for the
month will receive a dog tag.
Perfect attendance means no
absences, no tardies, and no early
dismissals. Students that have 5
dog tags at the end of the year will
be able to participate in a group
reward!

The end of the school day for many
children means the beginning of
sports practices, music lessons and
homework. Be sure your child has
the energy to stay focused and
make it to dinner with healthy
afternoon snacks, such as:
 Trail mix of nuts, dried fruit,
whole-grain pretzels and lowsugar dry cereal
 Low-fat yogurt
 Fruit slices
 Vegetables and hummus
 Pretzels with peanut butter or
hummus
 Low-fat cheese and whole-grain
crackers
 Whole-grain cereal dry or with
low-fat or fat-free milk
 Low-fat milk, 100-percent juices
and water
 Reduced-sodium turkey breast
wrapped around apple slices
 Nuts and raisins
 Celery sticks filled with peanut
or almond butter and sprinkled
with dried cranberries or raisins
 Baked tortilla chips and salsa
 Whole-wheat tortilla with
reduced-sodium turkey breast
and reduced-fat cheese heated in
the microwave.

The Scholastic Reading Counts
program has been purchased with the
$1,000 Dollar General grant. It should
be up and running and available to
grades 1-8 within the next two
weeks. It is an online program, but it’s
use will be restricted to Monday through
Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Tests will
not be limited to the books in the library,
but will be available for almost any
book. This will give students more
opportunities to take tests and earn
points.
