Information Sheet for Staff
Currently the Facilities Department is introducing the Green Bin Program to all remaining sites within
the Board.
Originally participation was voluntary due to limited capacity of the City of Toronto’s organic processing
plant, however with their new facility operating in Etobicoke, it is now a mandatory program.
Resources for you to review are attached to the email. These resources will provide the school the
information on the diversion of organics from the waste stream. Larger Put Waste in its Place Posters
are available on request
Site visits with the City of Toronto will be required to assess each school’s needs.
The Facilities Department will either be supplying:


A front end load steel bin (similar to those used for waste and recycling)
Or 35 gallon totes that are to be placed at the cub for collection
The City of Toronto provides kitchen catchers to the school free of charge. Bag liners are available for
order through the Flexo catalogue. Plastic bags are acceptable to line the organics bin. Please do not tie
these when removing. Bags are to be placed in the Green Bin totes for curbside collection or directly
into the Front end steel bin
