SHORT INTRODUCTION – MR GOVIND SAMI, PERMANENT SECRETARY FOR SOCIAL WELFARE, WOMEN AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION Govind Sami was born and educated in Fiji and is currently the Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation. Upon completing his primary and secondary education in Labasa, Mr Sami completed his Bachelor of Arts and teacher training qualifications from University of the South Pacific. He also completed his Masters in Educational Administration from University of New South Wales in 1995 and during his term with Ministry of Education he had undertaken various educational leadership roles having started as a secondary school teacher in 1975. In his capacity as the PS for Social Welfare, Mr Sami proves to have a wealth of knowledge in serving the poor, vulnerable and the needy in the society. He currently Chairs the National Coordinating Committee on the Child (NCCC) and is well versed with child welfare issues.
