Kidder Memorial Home OBITUARY: Alden Warren Jones, Sr. DATELINE: Swanton, Vermont Alden Warren Jones, Sr., age 75 years, a resident of the Swanton community since 1994, died early Sunday morning, June 24, 2012, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility. Born in Durham, CT on, September 13, 1935, Alden was the son of the late Percy and Mildred (Hull) Jones. He graduated from Milton High School and attended the University of Vermont. On July 16, 1960, he was married to the former Patricia LaBelle who survives him. Alden faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Era and retired from the Vermont Army National Guard, Mountain School Firing Range, 131st Engineers. At the time of his honorable discharge he was accredited with 32 years of military service. Locally he was a very active life member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 of St. Albans and had previously served as Vice Commander and Service Officer. He was also Present County and District Commander for the American Legion. Alden was member and Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans, Col. Donald G. Cook, Chapter 5 and spent many hours driving other veterans to their appointments at the Veterans Hospital in White River, Junction. In earlier years he worked in the Poultry Industry and was published in Who's Who in American as a top manager. For several years he also owned and operated Mansfield Sanitation in Jericho. He was a former member of the Isle La Motte Lodge 81, F & AM. In addition to his wife Pat of 52 years, Alden leaves two daughters, Sara Wilbanks and husband James of San Antonio, TX and Susan Philippon and husband Robert of Pisgah Forest, NC; two sons, Alden Jones Jr. and his fiancée Jill Ballard of St. Albans and John Jones of Swanton; two grandchildren, Liza and Ryan Jones; a brother, Roger Jones of Easton, PA and a sister, Janet Santor of St. Albans as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Patricia Jones. A Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 10 a.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Anne Torrance Bachmann will officiate. Interment with full military honors will take place on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 9 a.m. in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center.
