Cochrane Airways Australian Satellite - NHMRC CRE in Lung Health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children Cochrane Scholarship 2016 A scholarship of up to $2,000 will be offered to students in health sciences (undergraduate or postgraduate) to study Evidence-Based Medicine in lung conditions that are prevalent and important to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders or Maori children. This scholarship is designed to support activities of the Cochrane Collaboration, through the Airways Group, which aims to provide a systematic up-to-date summary of reliable evidence on risks and benefits of healthcare. This scholarship has been made available through a NHMRC grant; Centre of Research Excellence in Lung Health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children. Applications should be submitted by email to Prof Anne Chang at the CRE in Lung Health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children (anne.chang@menzies.edu.au) by COB on Monday, 30th November 2015 (extended application period): In your application Address the scholarship criteria (see point 7 below, maximum 2 pages) Include a brief curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages) CONDITIONS 1 The scholarship will be called ‘The CRE in Lung Health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children- Cochrane Airways Australia Scholarship. 2 Students will have to be enrolled in a Health Professional Degree (eg Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, etc) as an undergraduate or postgraduate. 3 The scholarship will be awarded annually and the value will be up to $2,000.00. Scholarship funds may be used in a number of ways; some examples of appropriate use include, assistance with travel or attendance at an academic meeting such as TSANZ to present results of a systematic review, facilitate face-to-face meetings with a supervisor. 4 The scholarship will be presented to the recipient or nominee by the Australian Satellite of the Cochrane Airways Group. 5 Applicants are ineligible if they have already been awarded other bursaries or a Scholarships related to Cochrane activities. 6 Recipients will be required to: Complete a project related to work of the Cochrane Airways Group, which may include performing or updating reviews, translating reviews, performing quality improvement activities Provide a report on relevant activities over scholarship period Present the findings at a local, national or international conference Acknowledge the support from The CRE in Lung Health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children (grant number 1040830) and Cochrane Airways Australia. 7 The criteria for award of Scholarships will be a. Evidence showing: Knowledge and achievement in the field of Evidence Based Medicine Understanding of the principles of Evidence Based Medicine High level of information literacy Relevance to lung health in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders or Maori children. Availability of high quality supervision in completing a Cochrane review. b. The proposed review or Cochrane related-activity c. Details of how the funds will be spent d. How the scholarship will assist with career development 8 The scholarship will be awarded by Satellite Advisory Group of Cochrane Airways Australia which has the final responsible for determining the recipient. The successful applicant will be notified by email by Friday, 26 February 2016.
