CINV Postdoc grant program 2013
The Centro Interdisciplinario de Neurociencia de Valparaíso (CINV), striving to foster
top-level research, invites young graduate scientists to apply for a scholarship of its
postdoctorate program 2013. The purpose of this program is to support PhD graduates
with excellent antecedents who wish to initiate or continue a scientific project in one
of CINV`s primary research fields, which are:

CINV`s postdoctorate grant is an annual scholarship. Candidates who wish to continue
their research in the CINV are expected to apply for external projects during their first
year [e.g. FONDECYT http://www.conicyt.cl/fondecyt].
The monthly salary will be equivalent to a FONDECYT postdoctoral grant. After the
contest decision and acceptance by the candidate, a formal agreement will establish
the legal conditions of this scholarship.
Application requirements:
1. PhD or Doctor`s degree, obtained within five years prior to March 1 st, 2013.
2. Sponsorship by a CINV researcher.
Documents to be included in the application:
1. Letter of intent
2. CV, including principal publications and activities (3 pages)
3. Research project proposal (max. 3 pages), including:
a) Summary (1 page)
b) Methods and Analysis
c) Gantt chart, indicating specific objectives to be fulfilled
d) Expected results and projections
4. Letter of recommendation
5. Support letter by a CINV researcher, including a description of the funds that
would support the execution of the proposal. Please detail any direct support
of the applicant by the respective CINV research field.

Evaluation criteria:
1. Research project proposal (25%)
2. ISI publications of the applicant (35%)
Conversion table for the ISI publications:
Impact factor (IF) >= 5 = 1
IF between > 2.5 and < 5 = 0.6
IF <= 2.5 = 0.3
Calculus per article:
Weighted IF = IF of the article X 1 if applicant is first author, and 0.5 if not.

a) Teaching experience, scientific awards, laboratory internships (10%)
b) Letter of Intent (15%)
c) Letter of Recommendation (15%)

Applicant`s selection will be in charge of an ad-hoc commission, appointed by CINV
director Ramón Latorre, which will include CINV and non-CINV researchers. The
commission reserves the right to declare the competition void if none of the applicants
are deemed suitable.
