Audio Description of works from ‘Marking Blind’ by curator Amanda Cachia on Arts & Disability Ireland’s ‘Curated Space’. www.adiarts.ie/curated-space Alice Wingwall, Thumbs Up at the Grand Hotel (in Lund, Sweden), no date. Photograph. A coloured photograph taken on a sunny day. A hotel dominates the upper right side of the frame. Constructed in the late 1800s, and painted a tasteful shade of coral pink. Steps lead up from the pavement to an entrance. There appears to be four or five floors if we go by the layers of windows. Above the entrance on the third floor are three large, long windows with a balcony set outside them. The hotel stretches out to the left where awnings hang outside windows protecting the residence from the sun. Grass reaches from the edge of a path in the foreground spreading out towards a small leafed tree to our right which throws shadows around it. A straight hedge possibly about 3 foot high begins across the path from the hotel entrance is stretching over the grass horizontally to the left hand side of the photo. In the foreground to the left hand side a woman stands dressed in vibrant pink. She has short grey white hair, her face largely hidden as she faces the hotel. Head lowered slightly. Her right arm held out towards the Grand Hotel, hand gesturing thumbs up. This gesture is split up into six frames, giving the feeling of motion. Her shadow falls across the path and grass to the left of her. Behind the hedge, large trees dominate the upper left of the frame. Shrubbery with a splash of violet peep over the hedge. White buildings line the street behind the trees. A blue sky sandwiched between trees and hotel.
