Rahotu School Vision: “Keeping the Flames of Learning
Alive”
Dear Parents/Caregivers and Community Members,
Welcome back to week three, we hope you enjoyed the extra two days at home with the
children.
A big thanks to Te Paepae o te Raukura Marae at Parihaka for opening your
doors and welcoming the Rahotu Staff. A special thanks to Ruakere Hond,
Tihikura Hohaia and Charissa Waerea for taking time from their busy
schedules to be with the staff to talk about Parihaka and to the whanau for
providing kai.
Our teachers felt the discussion was insightful in that they learnt not only
about the history but developed a greater understanding of the principles
of Parihaka as applicable to today.
We discussed how these applied and intertwine with our FLAME philosophy
and strategies for 2016. All staff returned to school for the afternoon and
worked on our strategic planning for the following year.
In time this will be shared with all, we will also be seeking your feedback
and suggestions for ideas and areas that you would like Rahotu to focus on
next year.
The BOT will be meeting towards the end of November to consider the
strategic plan and it is my intention to look at this at the next Home and
School Meeting, so, if you can make it along to the meetings your input
would be greatly appreciated.
Alternatively if you would like to chat on a one on one about the direction of our school
please feel free to drop in and make a time to discuss any burning issues or great ideas. A
great example of this is the overwhelming support from the community to take the
students to the mountain and to have school camps in Taranaki focusing on the great
outdoors.
Regards Brigitte Luke

Home and School
The Home & School team would like say a huge thank you to all of the parents,
students and staff and wider community members who put on their wet weather gear
and brave faces and supported, and I'm sure enjoyed, our Calf & Lamb day last week.
Despite the weather everyone's hard work and generosity made it a very successful
fundraiser. With funds raised from our big day going towards the upgrade of the
school hall. Should we find ourselves in there again next year for prize giving and the
auction expect a brighter, fresher more appealing place to meet.
Congratulations to the following raffle winners.
