Spring Recital May 22, 2015 at 7:00pm.
First Baptist Church of Woodstock’s Orchestra Room
Fun with music classes are offered in June and July with 8 different instruments being taught for 4 weeks. This helps your
student “translate” from a familiar instrument, to one using the same notes and rhythms, but perhaps different fingering. Also,
some instruments need to be blown and others are bowed, or played with a pick, strummed, or pushed and pulled! If you
continue to study your same instrument through the summer, then why not add a month of something you’re curious
about…Or, you can just do the new instrument for 4 weeks. It’s only $50 a month! Private lessons are $80 a month.
JUNE and JULY Classes
Ring ‘n Sing Bell Choir is for students who can read a few notes, and like to sing. Ringing bell chimes helps us with singing
on pitch, and to read rhythm notation. We will ring the melody, and also learn harmony and chords. When we play chords,
then we have to SING the melody. It’s so fun, and really helps us to learn our notes. Class meets on Saturdays at 1:30.
ONLY OFFERED IN JUNE
Drum Bums are many different percussion instruments, triangles, cowbells, claves, maracas, guiros. Djembe, egg-shakers,
finger cymbals, and a variety of drums. We will learn to read rhythms, and “voices”, how to play along with music you know,
and how to make our own music! Class meets on Saturdays at 1:30. ONLY OFFERED IN JULY.
Guitar Class is for children who have a guitar and don’t know how to play. I also have some brand new ¾ size ones with nice
cases for sale. You will learn to play 4 songs in 4 weeks, and learn 5 chords and 2 scales! I hope to keep this group going in
the fall, and you will already be smart! Please come at 10:30 Tuesdays in June, and Saturdays at 11:30 in July.
Piano Horn and Harmonica Class are two instruments that you need to breathe or blow into to play. If you have a piano
horn or a C harmonica you’ll be all set. I will sell them for my cost of $8.00 a piece. Just let me know…We will learn to read
notes and play by numbers, and also to read inhale and exhale markings! We will meet on Tuesdays at 11:30 in June, and
Tuesdays at 11:30 in July.
Harp Class is for children who don’t have their own harp, and want to try one before they rent or buy! There is no practicing
until you rent or purchase your own harp! We will learn basics of note reading, and playing by ear, with scales and “arpeggios”
– which means rolling chords like a harp! We will meet on Thursdays at 10:30 in June, and Saturdays at 10:30 in July.
Violin and Cello Class are offered together. They are a bass instrument, and a treble instrument. People who play the piano
or harp will have an easy time playing either one. We will learn 4 songs in 4 weeks, 3 scales, and some funny sound effects!
We have 5 violins and 4 cellos, to use here for the month, and I hope to keep this group going when we go back to school!
Thursdays at 11:30 in June, and Tuesdays at 10:30 in July.
Ukulele Class is like playing a small guitar, but with only 4 strings, and a different tuning. You might enjoy playing both – but
probably not in the same month. We will learn 4 scales, 4 chords, and 4 songs in one month. You will need your own ukulele,
and I will furnish the felt picks, and some music to read for fun. Saturdays at 11:30 in June, and Thursdays at 10:30 in July.
Accordion Class is so fun, if you’ve played the piano a little. It’s just your right hand on the small “piano” keys, and the left
hand only plays 3 buttons. You will learn to make your instrument “breathe” and inhale for 4 beats, and exhale for 4 beats.
This is so fun, you’ll have trouble not laughing all the time! 5 piano accordions are available to learn on. We will meet on
Saturdays at 10:30 in June, and Tuesdays at 11:30 in July.
Back To School Party! “Sundaes on Sunday”, August 2rd from 4:30 to 5:30. Please bring something
to put on an Ice Cream Sunday! We will supply everything else!
