POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Assistant Director Classroom Instruction
Program: Integrated Program Models
General Purpose:
Under the guidance of the Director of Integrated Program Models, to supervise classroom
instruction and operational aspects of each Integrated Program Models (IPM) site.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervises daily operation of the IPM program in order to ensure clarity and
consistency of program procedures and standards. Visits sites and communicates with
staff and LEA’s.
2. Supervises teaching staff to ensure quality of instruction, compliance with IEP’s and
good practice in the supervision of paraprofessionals.
3. Communicates with program director via phone and written/personal contact to advise
on various issues.
4. Communicates with LEA’s and parents by phone and written/personal contact to
ensure compliance with students’ IEP’s.
5. Interviews and recommends candidates to hire.
6. Develops program/budget recommendations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
MS degree in Special Education and 5 years teaching experience plus several years of
experience in school administration and supervision, or equivalent combination of
education and experience. Must be knowledgeable in special education law and in best
practices in special education and service delivery. Requires strong knowledge of the
nature of disabilities, particularly in the medically fragile/multiply handicapped
populations. Must have excellent oral and written communications skills and supervisory
skills. Must possess CT State Administrator’s Certification.
Supervision
Directly supervises 9 people and indirectly supervises 18. Responsible for planning,
assigning and reviewing work, budgeting, hiring new employees, setting standards,
training, counseling, disciplining and appraising performance. Recommends salary
actions.
Working Conditions
Requires considerable local travel.
