To be eligible for local events, all exhibits and exhibitors must reside for three months within the Walgett Show District immediately prior to the Show (except students whose Parental home is in the District). RULES OF THE WALGETT SHOW SOCIETY INC The Association shall be called “The Walgett Show Society Inc.” OBJECTIVES • To promote the development of Agriculture, Horticulture and Industrial resources of the Walgett Shire and surrounding District. • To hold exhibits and gymkhanas on the Walgett Showground or such other places as may be decided for the display of horses, cattle, dogs, poultry and other livestock and Horticulture and/or Agricultural products of all kinds together with other such subjects of manufactured products or the Arts as may be determined. • To promote such other objects as may lend to the advancement of the Agricultural and Horticultural and Industrial interest of the State. NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS – CLOSING OF ENTRIES Entries closing times are noted in each Section. Entries must be in accordance with the regulations and conditions governing each section. 6 PRIZE MONEY Prize money will be paid after each event by the Steward, unless stated. Others will be paid on presentation of the Steward’s Vouchers at the Secretary’s Office on the second day of the Show at 4.00pm. All prize money and trophies must be collected by 30 June or they will revert to the Walgett Show Society Inc. NOTICES TO JUDGES In awarding Champion Prizes, the Judges will be required to select the next exhibit in order of merit, to be called the Reserve, which will take place of the Champion in the event of the latter being disqualified through any cause. Only Champions can compete for Grand Champions and Reserve Grand Champion in all sections of the Show, except the Sheep Section. The judges shall fill in award papers supplied to them in all their details, assign reasons for their ‘decision’, if required, sign and hand same to the Chief Steward. MANAGEMENT 1. The affairs and business of the Society shall be managed by a Committee not exceeding forty (40) members, of whom not less than fifteen (15) and not more than twenty-five (25) shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting, together with Patrons. 7 2. The Committee elected as provided in Rule 3A shall have power to fill all vacancies on the Committee. 3. The Committee so elected, shall at their first meeting, elect from their numbers, President, Senior Vice-President and two (2) Vice-Presidents. 4. The Committee so elected, shall appoint a Secretary and Treasurer and the term of such appointment shall be at their discretion. 5. All financial Members are eligible for election to the Committee. 6. Immediate Past Presidents automatically become a member of the Executive and Committee. MEETINGS 1. The financial year of the Society shall terminate on the thirtieth (30 th) June and the Annual General Meeting shall be held within six (6) months after the end of the financial year. Three weeks notice of such meeting shall be advertised. 2. Membership is due July each year. 3. Five (5) members at a Committee meeting shall form a quorum. 4. An Annual Report and Audited Balance Sheet shall be submitted at the Annual General Meeting. 5. A Special General Meeting may be called at any time by the President or by the Committee and shall be called on the receipt of a written request on any twelve (12) members of this Society. Notice therefore shall be given in the same manner as for the Annual General Meeting. No other business than set forth in such notice shall be taken into consideration at such meeting. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. NOTICE TO STEWARDS Shall forward any changes to their sections prior to the completion of the schedule. Shall attend to the reception, classification, numbering of entries. Shall, in case they think advisable to reject any exhibit, take immediate action and report to the Secretary. No Steward, being an exhibitor in the section of which he/she is a steward, shall be present with or near the Judge when the exhibit in which he/she is interested is being judged. Shall attend upon the Judges, furnish them with Award Books, Prize Cards and Ribbons and carefully explain the conditions of the competition in the class they are judging and to see that cards and ribbons are properly affixed to the prize exhibits and in cases of disputes shall certify to the correctness and identify the awards. Shall sign the Award Books co-jointly with the Judges and prepare the Prize Cards. 8 Shall arrange amongst themselves for the constant and effective supervision of their section, the behavior of the attendants and employees and the comfort and convenience of both exhibitors and public. Return Judges Books to the Secretary, fully completed and signed by the Judge. ATTENTION: In cases of breakages and/or damage, all articles must be returned promptly to the Secretary’s Office, with a “written and signed please explain.” REGULATIONS OF THE WALGETT SHOW SOCIETY All exhibits, except where otherwise stated, must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor and no exhibitor will be allowed to compete or form part of any exhibit, for more than one prize, except Champion Prize or as may be determined by the Committee from time to time. All entries must be in the hands of the Secretary on a date to be fixed by the Society and such date to be published in the Society’s Schedule each year. Cattle exhibits must be on the ground by 7.30am on second day of the Show. Champions are to be selected from prize winners, where two or more classes are provided. The Judge may refuse to award a prize where an exhibit is deemed unworthy and has the power, if he/she desires to do so, to transfer any exhibit into the class he/ she considers it belongs. No exhibit will be allowed to be removed from the ground without permission of the Stewards of the class to which the exhibit belongs. Breed, breeder (if known), manner of feeding or housing (if any) as regards sheep and the date when last shorn, the Committee shall have power to disqualify an entry not complying with the conditions of its class. When a pair is mentioned, exhibits may be mixed sexes. The Society will not be responsible for any accident that may be caused through or by an exhibit and it shall be a condition of entry that such exhibitor shall hold the Society blameless and indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from such accidents. Waiver forms must be signed for all entries. 10. The Society will not, under any circumstances, hold itself responsible for any misdelivery of stock or other exhibits at the Society’s exhibition or any damage thereto. 11. The Committee reserves the right to cancel or postpone the Show indefinitely. 12. Should there be any reason to suspect that any exhibit is either diseased or dangerous, the Society reserves the right of refusing admittance to, or of removing same from the grounds at the expense of the exhibitor. 13. The Committee reserves the right of adjudicating on any questionable entry or any other point which may be raised and not specially provided for in the Rules, 9 14. All persons causing annoyance, loud comments on the decision of the Judges or unseemly or insulting behaviors, will, after having been cautioned by a member of the Committee or the Secretary, be expelled from the Showground. 15. In the event of any prize in the schedule being provided for by private contribution, it shall take the place of the Society’s prize if the Committee so determines. 16. Protests must be lodged in writing within one hour of the event, or within three events and must be accompanied by a fee of $50.00 which will be forfeited if such protest is deemed frivolous. 17. All persons exhibiting shall accept the decision of the Judges appointed by the Society and on all protests, the decision of the Committee shall be final and without appeal. 18. No Collection for charitable or other purpose will be allowed to be taken up on the Ground, without the consent of the Committee. 19. The decision of the Committee on all points shall be final and without appeal. 20. Entry fee must accompany all entries, otherwise they will not be received. 21. Entry Fee to be fixed by the Committee and published in the Schedule. Any competitors who have won a Championship, are obliged to be present for the Supreme Championship. JUNIOR JUDGING COMPETITION OVERALL STEWARD: Mr Ed Colless TO BE HELD ON: Sunday 29th June 2014 (TBC) ASC RULES AND REGULATIONS These rules cover Beef Cattle, Merino Sheep and Fleece Judging Competitions. Competitors must be over 15 and under 25 years of age on 1 st May in the year of the State Final at the Royal Easter Show. To be eligible to compete for the Group Finals, competitors must live and/or work in the District for three months or be enrolled at the secondary or tertiary institution in the area immediately prior to the Show. No competitor can represent more than one Show Society in any one Group Final and no more than one group in State Final. The winners of the National Final cannot compete at any level in the particular competition that they won. From 1993, winners of two (2) State Finals in any one class shall not be eligible for future competitions in that class. The Hormel Slide is to be used at all Group and State Finals. Groups to be entitled to be represented by State Level by two (2) competitors unless otherwise stated. Merino Judging – Groups to be entitled to be represented at State Level by one (1) competitor. Group Secretaries must inform ASC of the name, address and phone number of any competitor venue times of the State Finals. Memorial Trophy (Most Successful Judge) and Sam Marshall, Caitlin Furber, George Kerr and Charlotte Ricardo won the special Junior and Sub-Junior Judge’s prizes, donated by Tom and Tanya Slack-Smith. CLASS 1: MERINO SHEEP JUDGING COMPETITION CHIEF STEWARD: James Morris To commence at 9.00am each entrant to be under 24 years of age on 1 May. No entry fee is requested, but entry is subject to approval of the Show Committee. Four Merino sheep will be judged by the competitors, who will make their awards by placing each sheep in their correct order of merit from first to fourth. Points will be allotted for the correct handling. Each entrant to be eligible for maximum points is required to hold sheep for other contestants, either before or after they have judged, after which, the judges of the competition will judge the sheep and make their awards. A time limit of 12 minutes will be allowed competitors for judging and a further five (5) minutes for making out their awards, at the expiration of which, their cards will be handed to the judge. The competitor whose awards are closest to those of the judge will be declared the winner. Final places will be decided by an oral section commenting on the sheep judged. Each sheep will, for identification purposes, carry a letter namely, A, B, C and D. CLASS 2 - JUNIOR SHEEP JUDGING 10 The ASC will advise the competitors of the venue times of the State Finals. Winners should be requested to do a report on any study tour they take as a result of winning a competition to justify the sponsorship money. To be run in conjunction with Class 1. CLASS 3 - WOOL JUDGING COMPETITION CHIEF STEWARD: Mr Scott White, phone 6828 5235 2013 Junior Judging day Junior Judging was held on Sunday 30th June, coinciding with the start of Pony Camp. Juniors (10 U14 years), sub-juniors (U10 yrs.) and a small number of seniors (14 - 24 years) participated in Wool, Sheep and Cattle Judging, and also a Poultry section. Anna Holcombe received the EP Colless Each entrant to be under twenty-four (24) years of age on 1 May. No entry fee is required, but entry is subject to the approval of the Show Committee. Four Fleeces will be judged on a point score basis. Points will be allotted for handling. The competitor whose awards are closest to the judge’s will be declared the winner in the event of two or more competitors scoring an equal number of points for first or second positions, the judge has the right to select an additional fleece to be judged by such competitors in an endeavour to place an outright winner. No less than three animals of the one breed to be judged and placed in first, second and third by the competitor in accordance with the points awarded. Each competitor will be allowed fifteen (15) minutes and will be provided with a card on which he will indicate the number of points to be awarded to each animal put forward for judgment and his reasons for doing so. After completing their card, they will hand same to the Steward of the Section for presentation to the judge, who may, if he desires, question the competitor on any points in his judgment or any feature in connection with the cattle being judged. CLASS 7 - HORSE JUDGING COMPETITION If run, to be run during Walgett Pony Camp in July 2014 CHIEF STEWARD: Miss M Ozoux. Each entry under the age of twenty-four (24) years of age on 1 May. No entry fee is required, but entry is subject to approval of the Show Committee. No less than three horses to be judged and placed in first, second and third by the competitor in accordance with the points awarded. Each competitor will be allowed fifteen (15) minutes and will be provided with a card on which he will indicate the number of points to be awarded to each animal put forward for judgment and his reasons for doing so. After completing their card, they will hand same to the Steward of the Section for presentation to the judge, who may, if he desires, question the competitor on any points in his judgment or any feature in connection 12 with the horses being judged.
