Laboratory of Physical Chemistry at Åbo Akademi University organizes an intensive course: Equilibrium and Dynamic Wetting of Ideal and Heterogeneous Surfaces Part I: Equilibrium Wetting of Ideal Surfaces (3 cr) 24.-27.2.2013; Lecture hours: 9-11; 12:30-15 @FyKe seminar room Lecturers: Professor Emeritus Jarl B. Rosenholm Professor Jouko Peltonen Part II: Dynamic Wetting of Heterogeneous Surfaces (5 cr) 10.-14.3.2013; Lecture hours: 9-11; 12:30-15 @ FyKe seminar room Lecturers: Professor Emeritus Jarl B. Rosenholm Professor Jouko Peltonen Visiting lecturer: Markko Myllys, University of Jyväskylä This post gradual intensive course is intended for scientists from both academia and industry. The course aims to give a fundamental understanding about wetting phenomena and relevant theories. As shown in the diagram the course benefits scientists interested in e.g. material synthesis, chemical modification and processing. Wetting of surfaces include spreading mechanisms (printing), surface deposition (modification, printing, fouling), wetting of porous or rough surfaces (paper, membranes, solids) and penetration into porous matrices (paper, wood, solids). Extensive surface characterization is a prerequisite for controlled wetting. Surface Interactions Materials Synthesis Thermodynamics of Wetting Surface Wetting Material Surfaces Surface Modification Materials Processing The course fee for industry delegates is 250 € which includes the lecture material. The course involves daily homework and workshops. Course examination involves writing an essay on topics related to wetting and spreading and by presenting the results in a seminar. The credits for the course are provided after passing the seminar work. Additional information: jouko.peltonen@abo.fi
