Mr. Gilbert’s Behavior and Reward Plan
School Motto:
We promise, as a school family, to always be responsible, respectful learners.
School wide and Classroom Expectations:
1. Use a big voice.
2. Use helpful hands.
3. Use kind words.
4. Use listening ears.
Conscious Discipline:
This year La Vega Primary School will be creating a school family
using the Conscious Discipline program. We will strive to include all
members into our school family including, teachers, students, AND
parents! In this effort, it is my intent to teach your child how to selfregulate and be in control of their behavior as well as how to problem
solve with other students. We will implore various techniques to connect
with students and help them to practice how to make positive choices.
Therefore, your child will commit to working on one of the four choices
each day (big voice, helping hands, kind words, listening ears). You will
only be notified through your child’s take-home folder or a phone call if
your child is experiencing a problem with misbehavior. Otherwise, I will
try to coach your child through ways of solving problems and making
positive choices during the day, so that they can be learned in an
efficient manner. If you have any questions about the Conscious
Discipline program, please call the school and we will be glad to help
you!!!
Rewards:
The individual reward system that I use is a ticket jar. Your child will have a
chance to earn tickets every day to put in a jar and each week on Friday I will draw
out a few names of students to win prizes from the treasure chest.
We will also have a class reward system. I change this throughout
the year. Some examples include:
“Popcorn Jar”: fill up a jar with popcorn kernels one cup a day to
earn a popcorn and movie party
“Pom Pom Jar”: fill up a jar with pom poms to earn a class
reward
“Brownie Points”: fill a cookie sheet with one picture of a
brownie a day to earn a reward
“Roll-a-Reward”: a board game where students make their way
through the board game by rolling dice once a day to the finish
space for a reward
“Puzzle for Prizes”: fit the pieces of a puzzle together one piece a
day to work towards earning a reward
“Sticker Chart”: students earn stickers to put on a big chart for
the class to earn a reward when all the spaces are filled
“Great Job Cones”: one table group will receive the “Great Job!”
cone each day for the hard work they exhibited during the day
Rewards for the whole class may include extra recess, popcorn and
movie party, wearing no shoes for a day, small trinkets or prizes to take
home, bookmarks, sticker sheets, etc.
I love to reward each student for excellent work and making good choices,
however, it is my intent that your child learns the value of intrinsic motivation
(feeling proud of themselves and others for making positive choices rather than
always receiving materialistic rewards such as stickers, toys, etc.). Please join me
in teaching your child the value of making positive choices and hard work!
The individual reward system that I use is a sticker chart. Your child will
have a sticker chart in his/her cubbie. He/she will earn a sticker to put on his/her
chart at the end of the day. The sticker chart is for 4 weeks at a time. The rewards
that your child will earn are as follows:
10 stickers (half way!): one big sticker or ribbon to wear home
20 stickers (chart completed!): a trip to the treasure chest for a
prize!
