CENTRAL TILBA PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER – TERM 3 WEEK 7 31st August, 2011 Dear parents and students Last Thursday many of our students participated in the District Athletics Carnival in Narooma. We competed against much larger schools but every child who took part gave it their all. Coupar and Keira made the finals of their age race, while Jai finished third in the 11 Years High Jump. Our small schools relay team of Nick, Jai, Rhonda and Tayla finished second to Mogo and will now compete in the Regional Athletics Championships in Canberra this Friday. Congratulations to all our competitors – Jai, Nick, Tayla, Rhonda, Meg, Aidan, Tom, Tommy, Johanna, Keira, Ruby Ch, Ruby F, Libby and Coupar – and thank you to Bronwen Kamer and Denise Williamson for helping with transport. On Friday our Year Six students – Jai, Aidan, Nick, Tayla, Rhonda and Meg competed in the annual Academic Challenge at Broulee. They were excellent ambassadors for our school, and although they finished second to Bodalla in the small schools category, they performed well in many areas such as public speaking, performance, general knowledge and writing. Their performance of the play ‘The Story of Captains Cook and Phillip’ will be long remembered by all who saw it! Thank you to Paul Butcher who helped with transport on this occasion. The Year Sixes then all took part in the Eurobodalla Braidwood Learning Community Leadership Awards Dinner in Batemans Bay on Monday night. Our students were part of the evening’s entertainment, performing ‘Johnny Be Good’ to an appreciative audience of nearly three hundred. My thanks to Louise who gave up her time to be there and organise our musicians. TheAwards Dinner also recognised the contribution of a member of each school with the awarding of a Public Education Ambassador. This year it was awarded to Christina Potts, whose contribution to our school through her work with the P&C and our Environmental Education group is immense. Christina is always on hand to help and on behalf of the school I congratulate her on her award. There were some tired Year Six students and teachers at school on Tuesday! Our next school assembly will be held on Friday, 9th September. Items will be presented by the infants class. It will be followed by a P&C meeting. We will also take the opportunity on this day for the students to plant some trees in our playground.
