Tribeta, the biological honors society held our first meeting today, and this email will outline

information. (It's a long one, but hold in there for the biology comic at the end!)
Our faculty advisers are Dr. Thornton and Dr. Elliott, and the new E-board is, as follows,
President - Dylan McClung
Vice President - Nikhil Sekher
Secretary - Summer Nestorowicz
Treasurer - Ariana Appierto
Historian - Jess Nardone
We discussed levels of membership which are general, anyone interested in biology and whose
membership ends at graduation, associate, a member of TCNJ and national society whose
membership ends at graduation, and regular, members of TCNJ and national society for life.
Requirements to become a full member are: to be inducted in February, have 3 hours of
approved community service, 3.0 GPA, have taken at least 3 biology classes, have a biology
major or minor, and attend all meetings (or have excused absences which must be
emailed prior to the meeting).
Service opportunities (all of which count toward the 3 required hours) this semester are:
 Biology guides- for sophomore, junior, and senior applicants interested in being
biology's own personal ambassadors. An email was sent out with the template for
applications due this Sunday.
 Ecology trail clean up
 TASK tutoring- for locals usually studying for their GED. We are also looking for a
chairperson interested in leading this service. Please email the account if you are
interested in this leadership opportunity!
 Prison tutoring- anyone interested please contact Megan Tavares at mayers@tcnj.edu
 Science clubs- we have two science clubs this year which tutor and teach elementary
students science. One will be at Incarnation St. James School which
runs Wednesday 3-4 (email poqueth1@tcnj.edu if interested), and at Hedgepeth
Elementary which will also run Wednesdays 3-6 and will provide transportation
through Bonner (email alim3@tcnj.edu or salakoo1@tcnj.edu)
 Haunted Abe- on Oct. 29th, looking for actors, tour guides, and general volunteers to
scare children (for fun!)
 TCNJ holiday-in December we will be making ornaments for nursing homes.
 Hands on Science Night
Any seniors can get honor cords for graduation if they meet all requirements for 4 semesters
prior to graduation, and keep in mind, you can be inducted as a regular member and receive
honors cords in the same induction.
Anyone who has done research over the summer should email this account with information
about it so we can apply for the Berthoff Award this year.
We are planning on making T-shirts again this semester and are looking for any designs.
Winner gets a free t-shirt, so submit your designs to this email!
Some fun social events you guys can look forward to are a possible STEM formal in the spring,
apple and/or pumpkin picking, movie nights, and games. Email the account if there's a social
event you want to happen!
Important upcoming dates are Meet the Professors next Wednesday at 11am in P101 which
is mandatory for freshmen. Upperclassmen interested in research positions can attend or come
to 'How to get involved in research' on Oct. 1st.
I know this has been a long meeting minutes, but we want to keep our members informed about
any opportunities!
