* SECONDARY EDUCATION * Welcome to the Department of Educational Administration and Secondary Education. We are glad you are considering The College of New Jersey for your postsecondary experience. Undergraduate Secondary Education at The College of New Jersey is a collaborative endeavor between the School of Education and the academic content departments in the School of Culture and Society and the School of Science. The No Child Left Behind Act requires that teachers in secondary education MUST possess and demonstrate expertise in an academic content area, therefore, students select a major in an academic content department and complete their certification program in The Department of Educational Administration and Secondary Education (EASE). Majors leading to secondary education certifications at TCNJ: Economics, English, History, Spanish, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics Our students receive academic advisement in both their content department and in EASE. Students receive information about the Secondary Education program and course sequence in individual and group advising sessions, in their education courses, from the Chair, the Coordinator, and the faulty within the Secondary Education department. Guidance regarding content courses and Liberal Learning courses is provided through the content departments. Courses taken in the junior and senior year are intentionally designed, planned, and scheduled by faculty and advisors in the content area and EASE for the purposes of ensuring the students’ mastery of the content area, knowledge of pedagogical principles and competence in field instruction. Current student program planners are maintained in the content department while the secondary education course sequence is maintained in the Department of Educational Administration and Secondary Education. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding your Secondary Education course sequence.
