NOVEMBER 2014 KIMBERLY REIK-JOHNSON | RN Neonatal ICU – Mission Hospital Nomination from an infant’s mother My husband and I have a daughter that was born at 14 ounces and is currently in the Neonatal ICU (NICU). Kim Reik-Johnson has been her nurse since she was born, and she was one of the first to sign up as a primary nurse. Kim is such a great nurse because she provides the care that is expected of a NICU nurse, plus so much more. There are so many great nurses here, and she is by far one of our favorite nurses in the NICU. She is extremely compassionate and hard-working. On the days that Kim is working with our daughter, we know for a fact that our daughter is in great hands. Kim goes out of her way to make sure our baby girl is comfortable and well taken care of. We live a little over an hour away from Mission, and we feel uncomfortable being so far away from our daughter. When Kim is with her, we know that we don't have to worry. It's like we know everything is going to be okay. If we feel worried about anything, Kim will help us feel calm. If anything changes with our daughter's condition or treatment, Kim will explain to us what is happening in a way that we can better understand. She gives us details as to why those things are changing. We feel like we can rely on her to tell us everything that is going on with our daughter without stepping out of her professional nursing standards. My husband and I are very comfortable with Kim caring for our daughter. She has great tact, and it seems to me that her co-workers are comfortable with her as well. She demonstrates great teamwork and professionalism. I nominate Kim for the DAISY Award. I believe she deserves this award and so much more. She defines what a nurse is and should be.
