Kenneth Stephen Burnley Memorial Scholarship
Dear Student,
You have been selected by your school administrators to apply for the Burnley Memorial Scholarship.
Below are the criteria for qualifying for the scholarship as well as the timeline for selecting the
recipients.
First, a bit of information about the scholarship:
--Kenneth Burnley was superintendent for District 11 during the 1990s. He recently passed away and his
wife set aside some funds to be used to support students from District 11.
--No more than 13 students will be selected to apply for the scholarship.
-- Three scholarships of $750.00 will be awarded to the students selected by a committee from the
District 11 Foundation.
--The scholarship will be issued directly to the applicant's school to cover tuition, books or fees.
Criteria for Scholarship:
~~Proof of acceptance to a school (junior or community college, university or trade school) in
Colorado
~~First generation in your family to attend a school or university beyond high school
~~Attend a District 11 school (regular or charter)
~~Record of community involvement and extracurricular activities (which includes employment)
Requirements for Applying:
1. Complete an essay that is to be submitted to the District 11 Foundation no later than Friday, April 4.
The essay should include the following information:
~~Who are you? Tell a bit about your past and your passions
~~What school are you planning to attend and why did you select this school?
~~What are your goals and aspirations for your future?
~~What do you see yourself doing in 5 and 10 years from now?
2. From the essays some students will be asked to meet with the committee (approximately 4
members) and give a presentation on the same topics as the essay. The presentation should be about 5
minutes long and in the format of your choice. If selected, you will be asked to give your presentation
on April 21st. The three candidates selected will be notified no later than April 30th.
Important Dates to Remember:
April 20th--Submit your essay to the following email address: FoundationforD11@gmail.com
April 24th—Notification by email to candidates selected to move to the second step in the process
Note: Please include a good email address for communication with the Foundation
May 5th--Presentation to the committee by the 6 candidates who were selected
May 8th--Notification as to who was awarded the scholarship
