Of the shaded portion, shade ½ of the ½ with a different color. ____x____= ¾ (Give multiple answers.) Include notes for process of multiplication and division of fractions. Include vocabulary, such as reciprocal Menu Math activities – using menus, calculate totals spent, tax, tip, etc. Explain difference between GCF and LCM. Ask questions like: If one bus stops every 10 minutes and the other stops every 15 minutes, when is the first time they will stop at the same time? Have students write a descriptive phrase for what -6+8 could represent, then ask them to explain by writing how to find the sum Have students make 4 cards with a different positive integer on each one and 4 other cards with a different negative integer on each. Then have them ask another student to draw two cards randomly and subtract the second card from the first card drawn. Each student should rewrite the number as a decimal on the backside of the card. Then have students line up in the front of the classroom in order to from the least value to the greatest value. Have students create a Real/Complex Number system Venn Diagram. Place the numbers on the appropriate circles. Students will be able to recognize that the square root of 25 belongs in each category (except Irrational Numbers), however, the best answer is a Natural Number Have students explain how to explain terminating and repeating decimals as fractions Ask students to find 4/9 x 3/8 in two ways. Which do they prefer and why. Writing: have students write an outline explaining a procedure to divide fractions. Students should include at least one illustration to explain their ideas. Advance/Group work: Give students several pairs of fractions. Ask them to explain how they would find the LCD in each case. Also ask them to discuss what would happen if they used a common denominator that wasn’t the LCD Advance: Make a serious of cards with equations. Put each solution on a separate card. Scramble the cards. Lay the cards face down the table. Have groups of students play a memory type game. Remedial: practice having students find the absolute value of a number by making a number line of masking tape on the floor and having the students take steps from various positive and negative integers towards zero. Have them plot the integers on a large number line. Have students write an explanation of how they order positive and negative integers. Have them include a number line to illustrate this process. Have students write problems that can be solved by writing and solving equations with integers. Have students explain how to determine the sign of the quotient based on the signs of the dividend and the divisor. 7.NS Apply and extend previous understandings of numbers to the system of rational numbers.
