HYMS (start date: September 2003) offers joint medical degrees from the Universities of York
and Hull http://www.hyms.ac.uk/.
Monitored by the HYMS Joint Senate (HYMS Joint Learning and Teaching Committee dissolved
from 2012/13). HYMS-specific procedures for new programme approval, periodic review etc.
MSc in Human Anatomy and Evolution will move to Department of Archaeology at York from the
October 2016 intake and continue to involve close working between HYMS and Archaeology/
CAHS staff and shared marketing/ branding of the programme.
The Department of Politics is part of an Erasmus Mundus consortium with the Central European
University (CEU), Budapest, Hungary; the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Hague,
Netherlands; and the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI), Spain): Mundus MAPP:
Erasmus Mundus Masters in Public Policy. Students on the two year joint programme (start date
of revised version: October 2012) undertake the first year of the programme at either CEU or
ISS and then transfer to UoY or IBEI for their second year and receive a joint degree from either
UoY/ISS, UoY/CEU, IBEI/ISS or IBEI/CEU.

Mundus MAPP issues two types of degrees: for ISS/York we issue a single diploma; for
CEU/York we issue two diplomas (one from CEU and one from York, with a ‘degree supplement’
explaining that it was a Mundus MAPP two-year degree).

The Department of Politics and the Department of International Relations, Faculty of
International Relations, Ritsumeikan University, Japan have signed an agreement for a scheme
(start date: October 2007 end) whereby students studying a Masters programme in International
Relations in the Department of International Relations at Ritsumeikan University undertake one
semester of study at Ritsumeikan, then complete a one-year Masters programme in the
Department of Politics and finally return to Ritsumeikan University for a second semester of
study. On successful completion of the Masters programme in the Department of Politics
students will be awarded the relevant Masters qualification by the University of York.
Ritsumeikan University will recognise the year at York as equivalent to 10 of the 30 credits
required for its Masters degree.

modules to the programme leading to York credit which is then transferred to the University of
Birmingham. Students are taught alongside York students on the same module, but do not

Delivered by a consortium of European universities: Abo Akademi, Finland; Université de
Lausanne, Switzerland; Université de Lyon 2, France; Université Toulouse-Le Mireil, France;
Universidad Autonoma Barcelona, Spain; University of Bucharest, Romania. Each consortium
member offers a two year MA programme (start date: 2012 for UoY) which includes one
compulsory mobility period and a further optional mobility period within the consortium. Approval
of a 20-credit intensive option module (The Social Challenges of Gender and Equality: Theory,
Practices and Professions), with teaching delivered by CWS and EGALES (Masters in European
Gender and Equality Studies) partners but assessment by CWS only. In 2014 an Erasmus+ bid
was successful for additional resource to develop the intensive module involving the partners
above plus Frankfurt and Bruxelles Libre. Update: July 2015 Frankfurt withdrawn

Update: The link with Sheffield ran out in 2008 (i.e. it does not apply to students entering after
October 2008). A small number of students are completing their final projects and being
supervised by staff at Sheffield University. Update: Now withdrawn from prospectus. Final
cohort completed 2015.
Students (start date October 2012) can use credit from other institutions towards a York award,
utilising existing modules and relationships already in place via a Technical Accreditation
Scheme overseen by the University of Warwick. Alternatively students registered for an award at
one of the partner institutions can use York credits towards that award.
Update: Agreement to Sept 2013 but contract allows for indefinite extension unless one or more
parties drop out.

for BAE, which will provide an alternative Core module to Foundations of Systems Safety
