San Luis Obispo County Community College District June 2015 UNIVERSITY TRANSFER AND CAREER SERVICES SPECIALIST (Bargaining Unit Position) (Range 32) DEFINITION Under general supervision of the Director of Counseling and working in cooperation with the University Transfer and Career (UTC) Services Coordinator, the UTC Services Specialist will support students with transfer and career information at all college sites, oversee the everyday operations of the UTC Centers, provide specialized and technical assistance to students with respect to university transfer programs and career assessment, coordinate and promote activities and workshops, organize and disseminate university transfer and career information, supervise and train student employees, and perform other work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The UTC Services Specialist is distinguished from other classes of employment in that incumbents are expected to have sufficient training, expertise and experience to oversee the operations of the UTC Centers, to assist students navigating the university transfer process, and provide information to students in career and educational choices. This position supports student learning outcomes and institutional objectives by assisting students in identifying career direction, promoting university transfer programs and supporting student success in the university transfer process. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist new students with the Cuesta admissions application, online orientation, MyCuesta Portal, and Getting Started Steps; Provide instruction to users of the Career Café and the EUREKA Career Information and Assessment website to support development of an informed career choice; Serve as Administrator for, manage users of, and prepare the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and Strong Interest Inventory career assessment reports; Use ARGOS reports to identify transfer ready students to make timely interventions informing them of important transfer information; Conduct presentations about the general services and resources available in the UTC Centers to classes, faculty, staff, and the public; Maintain the Transfer Center webpage and update current event information on the Counseling Channel and the campus event calendar; Assist students using the CSUMentor website, completing the CSU admission application, and the transfer supplemental application from Cal Poly and other CSUs; Provide information about the UC Transfer Admission Guarantee (UCTAG) program, and help students using the University of California Transfer Admission Planner (UCTAP); Provide information about A Degree with a Guarantee, Associate Degrees for Transfer, and the CSU transfer process; Help students using the ASSIST website; Order supplies, process college catalogs, order and process career resources, maintain and organize university and career information; Assist students using the Common Application to apply to out of state and private universities; Provide instruction and training to Cuesta staff, general public, and students on use of UTC University Transfer and Career Services Specialist Page 1 of 3 Centers computer systems and software; Maintain study abroad materials and assist students researching study abroad opportunities. Coordinate university representative visits including scheduling, communications, facility reservations and promotion; Provide support for UTC, Counseling Department and Campus events including University Transfer Day, College Night, and the Student Success Festival; Support in the coordination and execution of university application, career, student-athlete and other workshops; Design flyers, brochures and presentation materials; Serve as SARS Grid Administrator for the Transfer Center location, enter master schedules, run various reports, and schedule workshops and student appointments; Coordinate usage of UTC Center facilities to accommodate Counseling Department activities; career, university application and Nursing workshops; university representative visits; student usage; and other UTC Center activities; Determine what and how information is displayed in the UTC Centers and design all table top, wall, and bulletin board displays; Compile updated materials from transfer institutions and maintain career materials; Use reference guides, educational and professional resources; Submit work orders and facility reservations; Pull Cuesta records from BANNER and scanned documents from Extender for appointments and workshops; Enter student contact data into BANNER for MIS and 3SP reporting; Train and evaluate student employees; and Perform other related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Required Associate’s Degree; Preferred Bachelor’s Degree. Experience: Preferred Two years working in student services at the college or university level; Assisting students with educational or career resources; Bilingual in Spanish (oral and written). Knowledge of: Computer systems and software applications utilized by the College including BANNER, Extender, SARS Grid, OU Campus, Cuesta View Room Reservation System, Computer Services and Physical Plant Work Order Systems; Online resources used in the university transfer process including CSUMentor, UC Admissions, A Degree with a Guarantee, ASSIST, CCC Transfer, and the Common Application; The university transfer process; Career assessment resources like EUREKA and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI); Modern office organization and practices; Principles of letter and report writing; University Transfer and Career Services Specialist Page 2 of 3 Principles of supervision and training; Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software; Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and District policies and procedures. Ability to: Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities. Physical ability to: Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors; Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email; Sit or stand for extended periods of time; Lift and/or carry 25 pounds; and Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.
