TAX EXECUTIVES INSTITUTE WISCONSIN CHAPTER NEWSLETTER October 2015 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE If you were at the September meeting and have never met me, you might think that I’m wickedly deceptive. That is generally not the case, although I did use trickery to get Carita Twinem to attend our session. I truly had goodness in my heart and was delighted to award Carita with the Wisconsin Chapter Meritorious Service Award. Carita has been an amazing advocate and ambassador for TEI since she became a member in 1988. She has held every officer position in our Chapter, culminating in being the President for the 19992000 year. She then set her sights on national involvement on various committees and was elected to the officer track where she held the role of International TEI President for the 2012-13 year. Carita has been an outstanding tax professional, mentor, peer and friend to many. We celebrate, thank and congratulate her! I am grateful for the great programming Jason Anderson organized for our September session. The speakers from Deloitte had deep knowledge and practical experience. Every employment tax topic they discussed was relevant and I learned some new things. Thanks Jason! October is traditionally when we host the IRS and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. Budget and travel restrictions have again limited the IRS’s ability to attend so we’ll hear from Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek. The last number of years the DOR has made a strong showing and has been very engaging. We are delighted to again have them participate in our program. In fact our session on October 20th conflicts with the TEI Annual Meeting and we’d normally try to avoid that conflict. Based on Diane Hardt’s travel schedule the Board made the decision to schedule around Diane’s availability. We apologize for the members who will miss the WI meeting in favor of attending the Annual Meeting. We are grateful for the efforts of Marcia Szabados and Troy Hildebrandt for everything they have done to organize this meeting! It promises to be another great session. As mentioned at the September meeting we are asking for members to get involved so we can have a vibrant, relevant and sustaining organization. We would like you to volunteer for a local committee assignment. This simply means you are willing to participate in a few emails and maybe a phone call or two to suggest topics and speakers for our programs. We want to ensure we are finding the speakers and topics which are meaningful to you. We have a chair and co-chair structure for each meeting and they have responsibility for planning and organizing the topics and speakers. The Board has responsibility for the venue, reservations, and other logistics. We have a standard schedule of general meeting topics for each month and we are looking for a few individuals (member or guest) to volunteer for each month/topic. - November = Acctng for Income Taxes - December = State & Local - February = International - March = roundtable - April = Federal - May = Special topic (anything) Please reach out to me if you are interested or want to learn more. Thanks for anything you can do! Please remember the October meeting will be held at the Sheraton Brookfield Hotel. The hotel is located at 375 S Moorland Road in Brookfield. Please reach out any time if you have feedback or suggestions.
