RE: Change in Controlled Substance Office Policy
Dear Valued Patient:
In order to better service you, we at Medical Healthcare Specialists
have decided to change the way we prescribe and refill controlled
substance medications. These policy changes have been made to
remain in accordance with recent Mass and Federal policies
surrounding controlled substances.
These policies have been created so as to better insure proper
treatment of your medical conditions, closer monitoring of controlled
substance prescriptions, and to deter misuse, overuse and diversion of
these medications.
As of January 1, 2013, all patients receiving controlled substances
from our office will be subject to the rules enclosed in our controlled
substance policy which is available to to all patients in this practice.
In short, all patients receiving controlled substances will have to read
and sign our controlled substance policy which includes radom urine
drug testing and prescription quantity limitations. As of the above
date, our patients will only receive thirty day supplies of any controlled
substance per prescription without refills. While we understand that
this may cause some inconvenience, we believe that this policy will be
in the best interest of patients that we care for.
