Repeat Prescriptions

Please remember that in our last newsletter we requested that 48 hours notice is required for the issuing of repeat prescriptions. It has been highlighted recently that patients have been calling to collect prescriptions within less than 24 hours of ordering and are then disappointed when the prescription has not been available. Due to recent changes within our practice team it is not always possible to guarantee prescriptions are issued and signed on the same day. However, if your request is urgent, please make this known to the receptionist on duty who will endeavour to make sure this is ready for you.

Your co-operation with this request would be appreciated.

Friends & Family Test

Please continue to give your feedback. Don’t forget that we are still collecting this for the Friends & -

Family Test on an ongoing basis. The forms are available in reception and the post box is located in reception for you to post your forms.

Feedback from the questionnaires will be made available on the practice website and in reception every month.

Failed Appointments

As in our previous newsletters we have been reporting the number of failed appointments each month:

During July 48 appointments were wasted by patients failing to attend. This amounts to 11 hours of wasted clinical time this month, more than half a week of surgery appointments. This is very disappointing, particularly when we have patients who continue to express their difficulty in obtaining an appointment.

Please don’t forget if you can’t attend please call the practice on 01782 311266 so that we may offer your appointment to someone else.

You may also cancel on line if you have registered to use this service.

NHS Health Check

This free health check helps to identify potential health risks early. It could help you to prevent developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and dementia in the future and improve your chances of living a healthier life by following the advice of a health care professional.

Everyone between the ages of 40-74 and who has not already been diagnosed with a long term health condition such as those listed above, will be invited to attend for a check once every five years. If you have not been contacted to attend by the practice, please ask at reception to arrange an appointment to see the health care assistant or practice nurse.

You will be asked to attend the practice and the check will then take approximately 30 minutes with the healthcare assistant or practice nurse and you will be asked some simple questions about family history and lifestyle. We will record your blood pressure, height, weight, take a blood test for cholesterol and glucose and give advice and tips about how you can stay healthy.

For further information please see the leaflet in the reception area or ask at reception for a copy.

Meningitis ACWY Vaccination

This vaccination is being introduced into the national immunisation programme for England this year.

Since 2009 there has been a year on year increase in the number of cases of meningococcal W (MenW) disease and there is no sign of the numbers declining. Older teenagers and young adults are more at risk of getting meningitis and septicaemia from MenW. A catch – up programme offering MenACWY vaccination to every pupil from years 10 to 13 is starting in general practice from late August and in schools from September 2015 onwards. The MenACWY vaccine will also replace the teenage MenC vaccine usually offered to year 9 or 10 students and become the routine vaccination for teenagers.

What is meningococcal disease?

Meningococcal bacteria can cause meningitis inflammation of the lining of the brain) and septicaemia

(blood poisoning). Both diseases are very serious and can kill, especially if not diagnosed early. The early symptoms of meningococcal disease are similar to those of flu, so you need to be able to recognise the symptoms very quickly (even if you have been vaccinated, the vaccines offered through the routine immunisation programme they do not protect against all forms of the disease).

A full description of the signs and symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia can be found at www.meningitis.org and www.meningitisnow.org

Ask at reception if further information is required.

Zero Tolerance

Please note that the practice operates a zero tolerance policy and we will not accept our staff being abused either verbally or physically by patients or visitors to our practice.

We strive to treat everyone who has contact with our practice with dignity and respect and ask that you please remember that we are here to help you and we may not always have the answer to any queries immediately.

Our reception staff do not always have instant access to the GP unless in an emergency situation.

Please respect that the GPs clinical time cannot be distracted from with administrative queries and the signing of repeat prescriptions. We allocate time on a daily basis at the end of surgery to discuss and resolve any actions and patient queries.

We will always endeavour to make sure that your queries have a satisfactory conclusion reached for you on the same day and will call you back with the outcome.

We appreciate that sometimes mistakes are made and request that these are handled in a polite and respectful manner.

Thank you for your co-operation and please speak to

Bev Heath for any further clarification.
