NOVEMBER 2012
Dear 4-H Families/Friends:
Congratulations to all Douglas County Youth Leaders
and volunteers who were recognized at Achievement
Night on October 14th! It was a great night as we
honored members of our 4-H family and also had the
opportunity to hear from youth and families who
experienced international 4-H this past summer. Thank
you to everyone who attended and gave of themselves
this past 4-H year!
Douglas County 4-H is facing several challenges in
2013. I want to encourage everyone to approach these
challenges looking from a positive perspective rather
than the negative. All that positive energy could easily
solve any issues we might have. I hope that
participating in 4-H will continue to build confidence
in our members, leaders, programs and our
communities. More than ever in these uncertain times,
4-H continues to engage youth, serve their
communities, and provides opportunities for
leadership development. If you have ideas or
suggestions of how we can expand or improve our
programs, I encourage you to contact me to talk about
it. Thank you and have a great month!

becoming 4-H volunteers? Then ask them to join us on Tuesday,
December 6, Noon – 1:30 p.m. at the Extension Office for this
one-time training. Feel free to bring a sack lunch! Certified
volunteers are covered by liability insurance, may host 4-H
guests, transport youth other than their own to/from 4-H
activities, and work one-on-one with 4-H youth during meetings.
They also have access to project literature, support from 4-H
educators and specialists, and can participate in or chaperone
workshops and other events. This workshop will be offered
again in January 2012 in conjunction with Project Night at
Northwestern High School.

4-H Afterschool Volunteers
Needed!
Do you have some free time
after school? Do you need
volunteer or leadership
experience for your resume or
application or do you just like
working with youth? If you
answered yes to any of those
questions we could utilize your
skills and help at our 4-H
Afterschool Club meetings at
local elementary schools!
Programs are scheduled to begin
in November and reach youth
from K-5th grade. We could use
help at 4 Corners, Great Lakes,
and Bryant Elementary schools.
Contact Joan if you are
interested. Training and
resources are provided.
