Mary Tetley
Chief Executive
British Sub-Aqua Club
Mary Tetley is Chief Executive Officer for the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC)
and has held this role for the last seven years. BSAC is the governing body
for scuba diving and is 60 years old this year! She was previously the
Business and Marketing Manager for BSAC and has a background in
marketing, business and journalism.
In her current role Mary has been focussed on making scuba more of a family
sport. She has been tasking with running a membership drive, encouraging
safe diving practices and promoting the sport to reach a wider audience. Part
of her work has involved working with young people on sport strategy and as
a result she has been encouraging young people to take-up snorkelling and
scuba and running beachcomber courses for all of the family. She has also
been leading the implementation of a new CRM system in addition to writing
books on scuba and launching a new member magazine – SCUBA.
Mary is keen pioneer of marine conservation and an active lobbiest for more
marine zones. She has lobbied alongside Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall and
Fish Fight.
Mary is an active member of her local community in North Wales. She owns
a chocolate shop in North Wales and is passionate about encouraging women
to become involved in business. She enjoys working with young people in
schools to inspire them on their careers.
In her spare time she enjoys riding and scuba diving.

Tim Kerr QC

Tim Kerr QC is a leader in local government law, education law,
administrative law and sports arbitration, both domestic and international. He
is well known as a versatile advocate, adviser, investigator and arbitrator. He
sits as a Recorder in criminal, civil and specialist Chancery cases. His
practice at the Bar blends traditional advocacy and advisory work with
investigations and arbitrations.
Tim arrived at the Bar with a first class degree in law from Magdalen College,
Oxford. He is a keen linguist who has worked in French, German and
Spanish. As well as appearing in courts and tribunals in England and Wales,
he regularly undertakes disciplinary investigations and chairs arbitration
panels in the public and sports sector.
Tim’s client base embraces public bodies, particularly local authorities,
employers, schools, colleges, universities, national and multi-national
corporations, sports governing bodies, players and athletes. He regularly
speaks at and chairs seminars and conferences on education, local
government and sports law.
Tim is a member of the FA Premier League Panel of Arbitrators and the Sport
Resolution UK Panel of Arbitrators. He chairs Anti-Doping Tribunals for the
International Tennis Federation and is Chairman of the International Cricket
Council Doping Hearing Panel, based in Dubai. As an arbitrator, he has
adjudicated in doping cases involving the tennis players Martina Hingis (of
Switzerland), Mariano Puerta (Argentina), Richard Gasquet (France) and
Filippo Volandri (Italy) among others.

Swimming since 1996. Advises on a broad range of commercial, disciplinary

Jason, who is responsible for Brabners’ relationship with Sport and
Recreation Alliance and its members has specialised in advising on legal
issues relating to sport and recreation for over 15 years. Recognised as a
leader in this field, he advises on all regulatory, disciplinary and governance
issues. He also has particular expertise advising on the exploitation of
commercial rights within sport including event organisation, sponsorship,
broadcasting and social media having advised on deals worth over £2 billion.
He is responsible for Brabners’ relationships with and has advised, amongst

Carol has a broad range of experience in sports law, having exclusively
advised in this area for over 10 years.
She advises international federations, national governing bodies,
associations, leagues and clubs and other sporting and recreation entities on
all aspects of their business, including disciplinary, regulatory and governance
issues. She has also represented sports clients before dispute resolution
forums at both a domestic and international level, including before the Court
of Arbitration for Sport (‘CAS’), The FA, UEFA and FIFA, including acting for

Chris is a dual qualified (Scotland and England) solicitor who specialises in
sports law, as well as having significant London corporate experience gained
at a ‘magic circle’ law firm. He has worked extensively in sport, and acted
successfully on a number of selection and other matters relating to the
Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012. Chris is also an Appeals Chairman
member of the Scottish Football Association Judicial Panel.
Chris has advised many governing bodies and sports clubs on a variety of
issues. These include high profile cases before regulatory bodies which have
gone to the level of both the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the Swiss
Federal Tribunal. Chris also advised the English Premier League Chairman at
the Companies Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court on the case of
Fulham FC v Sir David Richards and another, which is now the leading case
in its area.

Ben Moorhead, Senior Partner/Client Relationship
Ben is the senior partner and co-founder of the firm. He qualified as a solicitor
in 1983 and became a partner with Lawrence Graham soon afterwards.

large financial institutions and has substantial experience in corporate finance

Sam specialises in employment law with an emphasis on the sport and
transport sectors and acts for a wide range of clients, including a number of
sports charities and governing bodies for Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Advising on all aspects of employment law, including recruitment practices,
conditions of employment and contractual matters, employment status,
statutory rights and obligations, redundancy and restructuring, workplace

tribunal and high court claims, Sam is also experienced in handling complex

Richard has been involved in many types of case for various claimants

Christine’s expertise includes drafting, advising and /or negotiating on all
manner of contractual arrangements for sports sector clients / NGBs,
including event staging agreements, funding agreements, sponsorship
agreements as well as on more ‘operational’ contracts, such as web
development agreements or other IT / consultancy related contracts
necessary when such services are being bought in. Christine focuses on
achieving a balance of risk versus reward in the contractual matters that she
advises on.
Christine gives regulatory/compliance advice in relation to the Data Protection
Act 1998, child protection and safeguarding (Protection of Freedoms Act
2012), cookies, and website compliance. Christine enjoyed a six month

secondment to a multinational sports merchandise retailer where she advised
on player sponsorship deals, branding, merchandising and all manner of
contractual matters at the heart of the business.

Laura specialises in commercial disputes resolution, sports regulatory matters
and equestrian and agricultural disputes. She carries out advocacy including
interim applications (such as summary judgment, setting aside default
judgment, strike out, and case management conferences), and a variety of
trials.
She advises on commercial contract disputes involving breach of contract,
indemnity claims, insurance disputes and disputes relating to sale of goods
and supply of goods and services. She advises sports national governing
bodies (NGBs) in respect of disciplinary and regulatory procedures, child
protection matters, disciplinary disputes and sports tribunal work including
appeals to Sports Resolution and the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
