INTERNATIONAL REGIONAL ELECTIONS 2015 ELECTION ANCOUNCEMENT North East Asia Region Candidates for Chair: Szeto Ka Sing, Louis (Elected unopposed) Candidates for Young Member Representative: Jimmy Chan (Elected unopposed) Candidate Biographical Information CHAIR Elected Unopposed SZETO Ka Sing, Louis CEng FIMechE Ir Szeto Ka Sing(司徒家成工程師)is an Independent Non-executive Director of Nga Chun (Holding) Co.,, Ltd. Ir Szeto retired from Shell Hong Kong Ltd. in 31st July 2013 after 30 years of services in Terminal Operation, Installation Maintenance Engineer and then Manager, Global Technical and HSSE Manager, Technical and Engineering Manager. He is currently the E&M Consultant and Marine Surveyor of Shing Lee Engineering. Ir Szeto obtained a Higher Certificate in Marine and Mechanical Engineering in Hong Kong Technical College in 1976 and Engineering Council Part II Examination in 1987. He is a Fellow of the HKIE, the Institution of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (Ex IMarE), UK, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK, the Energy Institution, UK, and the Royal Institution of Naval Architects. He is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Marine Engineer, Chartered Mechanical Engineer, Chartered Naval Architecture and Chartered Energy Engineer, and Registered Professional Engineer in Mechanical, Marine and Naval Architectures. He is an Authorized Surveyor under Ch.548, an Approved Persons of Ch.295 (a, b & c), a Registered Competent Persons 1 & 2 of Gas Safety Ordinance Ch.51 and a Registered Energy Auditor of HKSAR. Ir Szeto was the Chairman of the HKIE MMNC Division 2003-2004; EG Division 2004-2005; HKIE Council Member from 2006 to 2008, Vice President of IMarEST, UK from 2003 to 2009, Hong Kong Engineers Registration Board Executive Committee from 2009 to Present, Chairman of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Hong Kong Branch from 2012 to 2014. Ir Szeto has been a Member of the Disciplinary Board (Lifts and Escalators (Safety) Ordinance (Cap. 327)), A Member the Appeal Board Panel (Amusement Rides (Safety)) from 2011 to 2014, and Member of the Task Force Working Group on Gas Safety Approved COP, and Building Energy Code Task Force Working Group Member from 2011 to Present. A Member of the BEC COP since 2013. Ir Szeto was presented the President’s Commendation in 2006 in recognition of his performance in the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, UK. Policy Statement I declared that as the Chairman of IMechE NEAR, I will • • • • • • Promote the IMechE by arranging joint activities within the region of NEAR (China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea); Encourage potential candidates to join IMechE; Explore cooperation / partnering opportunities with Engineering Industries within the region of NEAR; Assist in the accreditation / re-accreditation of Mechanical Engineering related university degree courses. Recruit and train up young engineers within the Region to be our successor Nurture our young Engineers and facilitate participation of Engineers in community work, political issues and social services YOUNG MEMBER REPRESENTATIVE Jimmy Chan AMIMechE Elected Unopposed I graduated with a BEng (Mechanical Engineering) in the University of Hong Kong in 2012. Currently I am working in Swire Properties as an assistant engineer, responsible for the building services engineering of the office towers, shopping mall and hotels in the Pacific Palace complex. To further equip myself with the latest knowledge of the industry, I am pursuing a MSc n Construction Project Management and expect to graduate in June 2016. Other than building services engineering, I have a strong interest in aviation and I had a 6-month internship in Boeing Company USA during my undergraduate degree. There is no doubt that North East Asia Region (NEAR) is under a rapid economic development. Fast pace development of infrastructure project in China, project manufacturing in Japan and electronics manufacturing in South Korea, etc. creates a huge demand for engineering. Nevertheless, challenges are continually emerging and it is important for young engineers to grasp these unprecedented opportunities to learn and develop our career in such a vibrant environment. By utilizing the NEAR platform, I do hope we young engineers can find a position to excel and do our best to serve the society and make a better world.
