AMERICORPS POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: College Preparation Coach
Reports to:
College Preparation Program Managers
College Bound St. Louis is an award-winning college preparation and persistence program. The
mission of College Bound is to provide promising high school students from under-resourced
backgrounds with the academic enrichment, social supports and life skills needed to succeed in
colleges and careers. Since our founding in 2006, we have succeeded in helping 100 percent of our
graduating seniors earn admission to a four-year college! We deliver our services with a full-time
staff of 20 and 23 AmeriCorps Members who directly serve our students as Academic Coaches. To

Position Summary
AmeriCorps Coaches will work directly with high school students in hybrid teacher-mentor-advisorcounselor roles to support them in gaining access to college. While serving students inside and
outside of the classroom, coaches will implement a college preparation curriculum focused on
guiding students through college acceptance, and preparing them for college success.
Primary Responsibilities
 Successfully understand and implement college preparation curriculum
 Adjust curriculum to meet individual classroom needs
 Create a classroom environment where students are inspired to learn and enjoy participating
 Design and lead after school/weekend community service events and cultural field trips
 Recruit students to participate in events
 Seek out and create relationship-building experiences with students
 Communicate with students regularly via phone, text, email, social media
 Conduct quarterly grade conferences
 Attend open houses/parent conferences/parent events
 Be present at school wide activities
 Collect quarterly grade reports and annual transcripts for students
 Conduct pre and post tests
 Mentor and advise students toward high school graduation and college acceptance
Skills and Qualifications
 Bachelor’s degree
 Experience working with youth
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills
 Strong interpersonal, organizational and computer skills
 High energy, and enthusiastic with a strong belief that young people can succeed
 Prefer familiarity with college admissions process
 Prefer teaching experience, or experience facilitating groups of various sizes
 Driver’s license and automobile required to transport 2 or more students per week
 Must be committed to serve 40-50 hours a week
