LOUIS COLLEGE PREPARATION COACH AMERICORPS JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Reports to: College Preparation Coach College Preparation Program Managers College Bound St. Louis is an award-winning college preparation and persistence program. The mission of College Bound is to provide promising high school students from under-resourced backgrounds with the academic enrichment, social supports and life skills needed to succeed in colleges and careers. Since our founding in 2006, we have succeeded in helping 100 percent of our graduating seniors earn admission to a four-year college! We deliver our services with a fulltime staff of 18 and 23 AmeriCorps members. To learn more, please visit: www.collegeboundstl.org Position Summary College Preparation Coaches will work directly with high school students in hybrid teacher-mentoradvisor-counselor roles to support them in gaining access to college. While serving students inside and outside of the classroom, coaches will implement a college preparation curriculum focused on guiding students through college acceptance, and preparing them for college attendance. Primary Responsibilities Successfully implement college preparation curriculum: Fully understand College Bound curriculum and prepare thoroughly for implementation Adjust curriculum to meet individual classroom needs Create a classroom environment where students are inspired to learn and enjoy participating Design and lead after school/weekend community service events and cultural field trips Recruit students to participate in events Seek out and create relationship-building experiences Communicate with students regularly Conduct quarterly grade conferences Attend open houses/parent conferences/parent events Be present at school wide activities Collect quarterly grade reports and annual transcripts for students Conduct pre and post tests Skills and Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and experience working with youth Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong interpersonal, organizational and computer skills High energy, and enthusiastic with a strong belief that young people can succeed Prefer familiarity with college admissions process Prefer teaching experience, or experience facilitating groups of various sizes Driver’s license and automobile required to transport 2 or more students per week Must be committed to serve 40-50 hours a week Benefits Living stipend Education Award of $5,700 Health insurance Federal student loan deferment (AmeriCorps will pay back the accrued interest on loans over that time) Possible Food Stamp (EBT) eligible Reimbursed mileage Professional development opportunities and trainings Duration of Term of Service August 1, 2015- July 31, 2016 How to Apply Interested candidates should visit College Bound’s website: http://www.collegeboundstl.org/jobopportunities/americorps-positions/ for more application details.
