We will meet in the computer lab tomorrow to start researching and creating a project that is based on
some aspect of Roman culture that we learned about in Stages 1 or 2. There will be two main parts of
your project:



Research – you will collect information about your topic and create either:
o A five paragraph research paper
o OR a Power Point or Presi (or other) presentation where you have introductory
and concluding slides, at least three major topic slides and at least three
supporting slides for each. These slides should all have information on them
(not just pictures), though you can have more than the 14 slide minimum with
just images.
Product:
o Create a brochure, menu, guide, or other product that is suitable to your topic –
OR –
o Create an actual product – a mosaic, a fresco, jewelry, Roman clothing, a
diorama, a Roman meal
Examples of projects: Research topics (with product examples in parentheses)
o Roman handwriting, wax tablets and styli (Create a wax tablet and write something
using Latin handwriting on it)
o Research a famous Pompeii house – House of Julius Polybius, House of the Faun, House
of the Tragic Poet, or House of Menander (Create a real estate listing/brochure “selling”
the house)
o Research artwork found in a Roman house (Create a mosaic or a fresco)
o Research, in more detail, the rooms of a typical Roman house (Create a diorama or
computer generated model of one of the rooms or whole house)
o Research Roman women (Create a detailed biography or a model of a gravestone
depicting a famous Roman woman)
o Research the dogs and other pets of ancient Romans (Create a sales brochure for an
ancient pet shop)
o Clothing of the Romans (Create an authentic toga, stola or other garment)
o Hairstyles of Roman women (Create a brochure of services for a Roman hair salon or
style someone’s hair in Roman fashion)
o Research jewelry – famous examples found, metals and gems used, etc. (Create a replica
piece/pieces of jewelry)
o Research makeup and perfume – makeup styles, ingredients used, etc. (Create a sales
brochure for an ancient “Mary Kay” or “Avon”)
o Food – this could be a project on types of food eaten for specific meals, popular food for
the wealthy compared to food for the poor, foods found at dinner parties, etc. (Create a
menu for a Roman restaurant, create a menu for a dinner party, create a Roman dish)
You must get your research topic and product approved by me IN WRITING.
