RAHOTU SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Week 9 Term 3 2015 Rahotu School Vision: “Keeping the Flames of Learning Alive” Dear Parents/Caregivers and Community Members, Wow what a busy term its been! The students all deserve a well earned holiday after their terms work, as do the staff. We are very proud of our students achievements this term, and the classrooms reflect the intense work compled about ‘Our Place in Space’. From all of us we wish you a happy break with your family and lots of sunshine! ALL students that do not have a Calf/Lamb or Goat havel been issued with a plain mask in which to create and design their AT HOME ACTIVITY of MASK MAKING. Google images have many great ideas. Students will be expected to return their mask completed at the end of Week One, Term Four ready for display. Tomorrow Friday 25 September the Hauora Leaders are holding a mufti day in preparation for our Calf and Lamb Day. Families are asked to contribute ONE GROCERY ITEM per family or a gold coin donation per child. Grocery items will be put towards raffles. Mrs Wilson and our Hauora Leaders have also organised a fun sports time, weather dependent Last Friday all student will attended a life show called “Hiwi the Kiwi goes Fishing” by the Minstrel. It was based around values and making the right choices – a great link to the NZ Curriculum Key Competencies and FLAME values of Family, Learning, Aroha, Mannaki and Excellence. Notices: Assembly will be held on Friday 26 September. The term - Most Improved and Diligent Awards as well as Whakatika kia pai awards will be given out. Transition day will be held on Thursday 5 November with Miss Kylie Lashford Taranaki Cross Country On Wednesday 23rd Miss Mackay took 15 students to participate in the Taranaki Cross Country in Hawera. They all ran brilliantly and four students came in the first ten, and one in the first twenty. This is amazing considering there where up to 100 kids in each age race. Miss Mackay was most impressed by our Rahotu students’ efforts. Kate McLean Home and School Notice Thank you to those of you who have returned your yellow Calf & Lamb Day help notice from last week. If yours is not back at school yet could you please return it tomorrow, it makes it easier for everybody if we know how you would prefer to help. Grocery raffle tickets should have come home yesterday if your eldest is in Room 7 and all others will come home today. Each family has 20 tickets to sell over the holidays. We hope the kids have fun tomorrow dressing up as their favourite sportsperson, the grocery items they bring contribute towards the raffle prize. Hopefully all animals have been registered by now. If not, do it tomorrow before noon to get into the prize draw for registering animals before the end of term. The prize will be given out in assembly tomorrow afternoon. To help with preparing your animals over the holidays, following are the year group categories for animals and the course requirements for them. They have been organised according to numbers of animals entered. Please refer to the back of your animal rearing booklet for requirements for each section. We have credit card sized computers called Raspberry Pi’s for kids to explore in an interactive session at each of the libraries as well as a group called Diamond Age coming along to show the children 3D Printing. All our sessions for children over the holidays are free and fun.
