Day One: The theoretical aspects of the empathy matters integrative model

Attachment relationships, types of attachment, brain development, resilience, emotional
competence and neuro transmitters and neuro circuits in relationships, epigenetics.
10.30am: Morning tea break
11.00am: Emotional competence and emotional schemas ( neural representations of emotional
states), internal working models and trans generational transmission of attachment patters.
11.30am: Right brain, unconscious affective processes and emotional competence (reception/
understanding, expression and regulation of emotions)

Parent- Infant Intervention
A supportive early intervention based on attachment theory, observational skills and interpersonal
neuro science. It is designed to meet current parental needs and issues concerning their baby or the
toddler. It supports parents and young children to feel more positively about themselves and
develop healthy interactions.
Early relationship between parent and infant has a history. The history of their attachment is just
forming, but is based on the parents own histories affecting everyday interactions around worries on
sleeping and feeding patterns, playing, stimulation and regulation. This brief intervention (usually
not more than four sessions) focuses on parental questions and concerns and particularly address
nonverbal communications. When this communications become more explicit, for both parents and
babies, healthy attachment relationships can continue to develop. The facilitator supports the
parents to develop the strategies to reach the baby leading to resolution of issues and concerns.
