Collaborative Research Centre in Australian History
HDR Professional Development Program, 2015
Introduction
This year-long program of weekly seminars is designed to immerse new masters and doctoral students in the rich and vibrant world of Australian
History at Federation University. Building on and highlighting the strengths and resources of the Collaborative Research Centre in Australian History
(CRCAH, pronounced circa), it is structured around four key questions:
•
what do we do?
•
how do we do it?
•
why do why we do it?
•
when do we do it?
Linked to themes of research, methodology, communication, and historiography, these questions will open up discussion on issues of direct relevance
to Australian History research students. The program will be delivered by experienced Australian History researchers from Federation University,
CRCAH’s partner organizations and other universities. As well as helping students to finesse their skills as Australian historians, part of the aim of the
program is to provide a space in which CRCAH students can come together as a group, finding strength, collegiality and inspiration in their peers. At the
conclusion of the program, participants will have broadened their knowledge base and sharpened their skills as Australian Historians, established a
network of contacts in Australian History, and developed keen sense of themselves as CRCAH students.
Where & when
CRCAH is based at the SMB campus, Building C, 107 Lydiard Street South, Ballarat. Most seminars are scheduled for Wednesdays from 3pm-5pm in Room C001
at this location. Occasionally, depending on the availability of guest speakers and other factors, the date or time may change and students will be informed of this in
advance. It is hoped that recordings of guest speakers will be posted on moodle for students to listen to at their leisure.
Attendance
There is a strong expectation that students will attend.
