SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! For many of you, things will look quite a bit different this year as many of our students and staff settle into their transition buildings and new classroom configurations. I want to take a moment to thank all of our staff members who worked so hard over the summer to have these new school sites cleaned, furnished, wired and ready to go for the first day of school. Thank you also for the cooperation of the teaching staff and administration of each building during the move. We also begin the new school year with some significant personnel changes. Assistant Superintendent Kevin Bright has retired and former Teaching & Learning Director Roxann Ramsey-Caserio is now the new Assistant Superintendent. Pam Griebel, formerly of the Westlake City Schools, is the new Director of Teaching & Learning K-12. We bid goodbye to former LHS Principal and HR Director Bill Wagner, who is now Interim Superintendent at Fairview Park City Schools. Deb Cahoon has returned to the district to lead the Human Resources Department. After last year’s flurry of principal changes, this year brings only one principal change: Brian Siftar, former LHS House Principal and Director of Special Programs, has replaced retired Emerson Principal Peg Seibel. We have an exciting and challenging year ahead of us as we continue to implement and adjust to the Common Core, prepare for online state assessments and make significant progress toward rebuilding the last of our schools in our Master Facilities Plan. I look forward to working with students, parents and staff to produce another year of growth and learning for our students and achieve the District Goals set forth by our Board of Education. Come celebrate the season with us while benefiting the Lakewood Council of PTAs. It is said that the harvest symbolizes for farmers that the cycle of their livelihood has come fullcircle. It's a time when they come alive. As school returns, the dedicated PTA volunteers come alive. Their efforts and the support that each PTA gives to Lakewood schools and students significantly improve the educational experience for all families. Each year, PTA celebrates the cycle and rhythm of the school year; harvesting and planting more seeds that benefits every child.
