Job Description
General and Specific Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. Provide clinical teaching and service in the Cornell University Hospital for Animals
[Companion Animal Hospital] including shared after-hours emergency backup
support with the other faculty for the ECC resident on duty/call;
2. Have a distribution of effort approximately 75% clinical teaching and service in the
Cornell University Hospital for Animals, including after-hours emergency backup
support to the ECC resident on duty/call, 10% collaborative research, and 15%
didactic or laboratory instruction of veterinary students and residents;
3. Interact with ECC, and ICU technical staff.
4. Assist in the training of ECC house officers; residents and rotating interns.
5. Participate in independent or collaborative research efforts.
6. Provide didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:
1. DVM or equivalent degree;
2. Board certification or eligibility by the American College of Veterinary Emergency
and Critical Care.

Instructor Position in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine
The Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University invites
applications for a 15 month clinical instructor position in the Section of Companion Animal
Emergency and Critical Care, commencing in July of 2015. Candidates must have a DVM or
equivalent degree. Board certification in Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care is preferred,
but candidates who have recently completed an approved residency and are board eligible in
Emergency and Critical Care will also be considered.
The successful candidate will join three board-certified Companion Animal Emergency and
Critical Care faculty members training five ECC residents working in a comprehensive teaching
and referral hospital with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Responsibilities will be
determined in accordance with the service needs, academic priorities, and the candidate’s areas
of expertise within the specialty of emergency and critical care medicine. Effort will be
distributed among clinical teaching and service in the Cornell University Hospital for Animals,

didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students and house officers, and collaborative
research. Salary will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.
Clinical duties require flexible working hours that may include daytime, evening, weekend, and
holiday responsibilities. The successful candidate will share supervision of a 24-hour emergency
receiving (ER) service as well as primary care of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit
(ICU) through the Critical Care (CC) Service. Both the ER and ICU are staffed 24 hours a day
with licensed veterinary technicians (several with VTS ECC certification) with a mission for
excellence in patient care. The ICU is open style with all specialty services (including the CC
Service) providing primary care of the patients in the unit. The candidate should have strong
interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with surgical and medical specialists
regarding case management.
