IV. Campus Recreation Campus Recreation is comprised of four different program areas; intramural sports, fitness, club sports, and summer programs. We offer many different activities for the University population ranging from sporting events to fitness classes to recreational opportunities to outdoor programming and even video game tournaments. Stop by the office and sign up for any program areas or let us know if there is something new you want added in the future. All of these options are available for all members of the University community with a valid University ID Card. For more information, schedule of classes and hours of operation, contact Campus Recreation at (910) 814-5571 or if on campus dial extension 5571 or go to: http://www.campbell.edu/campusrec Aquatics Center The Nathan Johnson Aquatics Center houses an NCAA regulation 25 yard, 8lane swimming pool, offices and classrooms. Students are welcome to utilize the facilities at no cost with a student ID Card. For hours of operation visit the university web site. (Please note: The Aquatics Center is not maintained by the Campus Recreation Department. Please contact the Aquatics Department for more information at ext. 1353) Carter Gymnasium Carter Gymnasium is located between the Wallace Student Center and Maddox Hall and is available for use by the students, faculty, and staff of Campbell University. The facility is primarily used for Campus Recreation activities but is available for informal recreation whenever intramural events or club sport activities are not occurring. Also located within Carter Gym is a multipurpose room used for aerobic programming as well as fitness opportunities and a weight room with free weight equipment. Fitness Classes All fitness classes are held in the multipurpose room located at the rear of Carter Gym. Our fitness classes are open to all current Campbell University students, faculty & staff with a Campbell University ID.. Carter Free Weight Center Located at the rear of Carter Gym, the Free Weight Center contains only free weights for Campbell University students, faculty & staff usage. Holding Fitness Center The Department of Campus Recreation operates the 3300 square feet Holding Fitness center located in John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center. Holding Fitness 1 Center is available for use by all current Campbell University students, faculty & staff with a University ID Card. Our fitness center is equipped with state of the art cardiovascular and strength equipment including, television screens throughout our facility giving every type of exercise enthusiast something to do during their workout. An attendant must be present for students to use the fitness center. Club Sports Sport Clubs are offered through the Department of Campus Recreation for students who wish to remain competitive in a sport but do not want to take on the extra responsibilities of a varsity athlete. Disc Golf Course The Disc Golf course is an 18-hole facility for the disc golf enthusiast. The course is located within the confines of the Cross Country course and offers beginner and advanced tee placements for all players. Use your own equipment or rent discs in Carter Gym for your round. Playing the course is free. If you have any questions call (910) 893-1367 or if on campus dial extension 1367. Intramural Sports The University sponsors Intramural Sports through the Campus Recreation Office as a means of promoting fellowship, friendly competition, and physical fitness. Sponsored sports include basketball, softball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, tennis, pool battleship, mud volleyball, wiffle ball, 3-on-3 basketball, dodge ball, and many other events. A tournament is held in each activity with awards being given to the champions. Keith Hills is a 27 hole golf facility. The Orange Course, par 36 is 3326 yards & was designed by Ellis Maples. The Black Course, par 36 is 3299 yards & was designed by Ellis Maples. The White Course, par 36 is 3309 yards & was designed by the son of Ellis, Dan Maples. Keith Hills is home to the Professional Golf Management Program and the Fighting Camels golf teams. It features a 32 acre practice facility with eight target greens, practice bunker, and four practice greens. Campbell students are eligible to play Monday through Friday at a reduced rate with a valid student ID. Tee times may not be made in advance. Course availability and rate information may be obtained through the Keith Hills Pro Shop at ext. 1371. Please inquire about student and range memberships at the Keith Hills Pro Shop Melvin Court The Phillip L. Melvin Outdoor Basketball Court is located directly behind Carter Gym within the confines of Saylor Park. This lighted outdoor court has eight goals and four full sized courts available for the students, faculty, and staff of Campbell University until approximately 12:00 am each night. Tennis Courts Tennis Courts located in the Nesbit Tennis Center of Eakes Athletic Complex are available for all students when they are not in use by the Tennis Team or for Exercise Science Classes. 3
