Big Data is an emerging trend that combines data, process, analytics, tools and skills to enable an organization to more precisely navigate the challenges relating to increasing competition, risk identification and management, customer relations, forecasting, cost control, and many other aspects of their business. The threat that an organization faces for failing to execute on an adequate Big Data strategy may not only be unacceptably poor performance, but survival. One of the requirements of execution is a properly skilled staff to perform the complex data analysis, business analysis and the data acquisition and change functions which are necessary for the successful deployment of the Big Data initiative. Firms are discovering that as they attempt to embark on a Big Data journey, they have critical skills gaps in the Business Analysis, Technology, and Math & Statistics domains. What isn’t being discussed is how Big Data projects will be managed – balancing scope, cost, and time. Is managing a Big Data project different from a traditional Information Technology project? Are project managers properly equipped to interact with resources that have these new and emerging skills? Are the risks of these projects any different or unique? Join us on August 1, 2015 for a unique session covering topics on Big Data and Project Management. This session will not be a typical seminar. The objective of this session is discovery. We will discuss, debate and determine whether or not the project management discipline will require some special skills in order to properly run Big Data projects. This topic is not being discussed in the Big Data circles; at least not yet. Our goal is to create a well-articulated position on the state of project management as it relates to Big Data projects. Are there unique needs for project managers? Come have your voice be heard, and be a part of a ground-breaking position statement as the discipline of project management delves into the world of Big Data!
