Position Summary: The Vice President is a leader who serves with and supports the affiliate member organizations of HandsOn Network, working to grow a linked, vibrant and high performing network of civic hubs. The Vice President plays a key internal role, collaborating with colleagues to develop and implement strategies for bringing programs to life via the power of our affiliate network, and a significant external role in partnership building and communication with affiliates and funding partners. This position serves as the primary lead in the development and implementation of strategies that meet a triple bottom line: advancing the reach of a national organization, building the capacity of high performing HandsOn affiliates and expanding knowledge and practices that will increase the advance of a new paradigm of civic engagement and participation. This position reports directly to the Executive Director (ED), HandsOn Network. Responsibilities: Affiliate Support and Development With the ED and the rest of the HandsOn national team, build effective relationships with HandsOn affiliates, maintaining regular communication and making affiliate-toaffiliate connections that strengthen the network and generate high satisfaction ratings from affiliate staff. Create, direct and manage sustainable investment strategies to the network of HandsOn affiliates. 1 Provide leadership to Affiliate task forces and working groups in order to achieve network-wide scale, connectivity and impact. Corporate Partnerships and Activation Work closely with affiliates to determine appropriate standards for performance, as well as to reinforce and guide affiliates in the critical metrics associated with their activities. Ensure successful affiliate readiness, implementation, and evaluation of managed corporate projects that are consistent with the HandsOn branded model of service and standards of excellence. Ensure seamless partnerships between affiliates/activation partners and corporate partners assigned through the planning and implementation stages of managed corporate projects. Manage the intersection of corporate and affiliate partnerships, ensuring excellent customer service, project development, execution, follow-up and evaluation of all corporate projects. Lead teams to continuously seek out best practices and innovation to bring to the Network and national funders across all areas of HandsOn Network with an emphasis on corporate project activation and EVP programs. Lead teams to collect and develop relevant learning content that is driven and led by subject matter experts including Network leaders that have demonstrated success and efficacy in practices and programs. Lead team to deliver written, online, and in person training to continuously inform and improve best practices as well as to bring innovative solutions to scale. Process Management Regularly review and update key internal and external processes. Ensure organizational compliance with grant agreements and other standards of compliance for affiliate grantees. Oversight, support and management of affiliate grant relationships and deliverables. Staff Leadership and Management Serve as a member of the HandsOn Network leadership team to support overall strategic planning and implementation of core initiatives. Provide direct supervision for corporate activation team, including volunteers and interns, as applicable. Provide regular management routines, performance evaluations, and ongoing coaching and feedback to ensure highest levels of performance. Ensure that the professional and volunteer staff are effectively utilized and trained to carry out mission. Model organizational values and provide ongoing coaching and mentorship. Communication Lead the documentation and communication of best practices and high impact stories – particularly those related to corporate employee engagement and national initiatives – for internal and external constituents. Represent HandsOn Network via conference attendance, speaking engagements and general relationship building. 2 Other Responsibilities Develop, monitor, and track the department’s annual plan and budget. Responsible for administrative duties (check requests, timesheets, etc.) Qualifications and Skills: The candidate should demonstrate an ability to translate vision into action, superior project management skills, a collaborative engagement style, and success in working effectively across sectors (government, business and social service). S/he must be able to thrive in an environment characterized by growth, diversity and change. The successful candidate will have: 10 or more years of experience leading multi-sector initiatives in an affiliate environment at either national or local level. Strong understanding of network models, national program implementation and growth of reciprocal affiliate partnerships. An understanding of corporate employee engagement programs Demonstrated success in project management and client relationship development. Strong staff development skills including hiring, training, remote supervision and supporting professional development. Experience in managing an annual budget of at least two million dollars. Superior organizational, time management and finance skills with a high attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A high degree of personal initiative with the desire and ability to meet aggressive programmatic goals. Ability to manage multiple projects and large amounts of detail under deadline pressures while providing excellent client and partner customer service. Superior problem solving and creative solutions skills.
