ANCIENT ART ANALYSIS PRESENTATIONS Library Computer Lab, 9/8, 9/9 and 9/10 Presentations in class 9/14-9/18 ART STANDARD 3.0 HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXT Understanding the Historical Contributions and Cultural Dimensions of the Visual Arts Students analyze the role and development of the visual arts in past and present cultures throughout the world, noting human diversity as it relates to the visual arts and artists. Role and Development of the Visual Arts 3.1 Identify similarities and differences in the purposes of art created in selected cultures. Groups will be assigned the following cultures and will present photos to the class using Google slides. Sumerian Art Mesopotamian Art Ancient Greek Art Native American Art Ancient African Art Incan Art Ancient Mayan Art Ancient Egyptian Art Ancient Roman Art Presentations must be created collaboratively by the group. Each person in the group must research a different photo of art from their assigned cultural period, and place the slide into their group’s presentation using Share in Google Slides. In the notes section of their slide, they must answer the following questions about their photo, and include their name and class period (to get credit!) 1. In what region of the world did this art exist? 2. In what time period did this art exist? 3. What objects, beings and actions are depicted in the art?(describe in detail) 4. Looking at the art of this culture, what can you say about what was important to them at the time? After class presentations, students will identify similarities and differences in the purposes of art created in these cultures using a forum discussion In Google Classroom. Each student must share an initial post EACH DAY of presentations and also respond to two peers in the discussion. Posts must be substantial and stay on topic to be counted.(see rubric below) Points; Contribution to group (1 slide in the presentation) 20 pts. Answering all four questions in notes section: 20 pts. Contribution to class discussion in Google Classroom: 20 pts. Total Possible Points: 60 ART I and II DISCUSSION RUBRIC Criteria Quantity and Timeliness Unsatisfactory Does not submit at least one initial response and/or does not submit at least two peer responses. 3 point Spelling and Mechanics Does not submit posts that are in complete sentences, or two or more of the complete sentences are grammatically incorrect and have greater than 2 spelling errors. 3 points Posts show little evidence of understanding of the assignment and the similarities and differences of different artworks 3 points Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of content and the similarities and differences of different art works Generates learning within the community Posts do not attempt to elicit responses and relections from other learners and/or responses do not build upon the ideas of other learners to take the discussion deeper. 3 points Satisfactory Submits at least one initial response early in the session and at least two peer responses closer to the end of the session. 3.75 points Submits posts that have one or more grammatically incorrect sentences and two spelling errors. 3.75 points Exemplary Submits one initial response early in the session and two or more thoughtful peer responses closer to the end of the session. 5 points Submits posts that contain grammatically correct sentences without any spelling errors 5 points Post(s) and responses show evidence of knowledge and understanding of the assignment and the similarities and differences of different artworks Post(s) and responses show evidence of knowledge and understanding of the assignment and the similarities and differences of different artworks and include links or other references that extend the learning of the community Posts attempt to elicit responses and reflections from other learners and responses build upon the ideas of other learners to take the discussion deeper. 3.75 points Posts definitely elicit responses and reflections from other learners and responses build upon and integrate multiple views from other learners to take the discussion deeper. 5 points
